Hello folks. Today's devotional covers condemnation, and will be a precursor to a devotional on spiritual warfare that may be released in September.

Date
August 18, 2024 | Condemnation
Verse
Romans 2:1 (NIV): "You, therefore, have no excuse, you who pass judgment on someone else, for at whatever point you judge another, you are condemning yourself, because you who pass judgment do the same things."

Isaiah 43:25 (NIV): "I, even I, am he who blots out your transgressions, for my own sake, and remembers your sins no more."

Psalm 34:21-22 (NIV): "Evil will slay the wicked; the foes of the righteous will be condemned. The Lord will rescue his servants; no one who takes refuge in him will be condemned."

2 Peter 2:1-10 (NIV): "But there were also false prophets among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you. They will secretly introduce destructive heresies, even denying the sovereign Lord who bought them—bringing swift destruction on themselves. Many will follow their depraved conduct and will bring the way of truth into disrepute. In their greed these teachers will exploit you with fabricated stories. Their condemnation has long been hanging over them, and their destruction has not been sleeping. For if God did not spare angels when they sinned, but sent them to hell, putting them in chains of darkness to be held for judgment; if he did not spare the ancient world when he brought the flood on its ungodly people, but protected Noah, a preacher of righteousness, and seven others; if he condemned the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah by burning them to ashes, and made them an example of what is going to happen to the ungodly; and if he rescued Lot, a righteous man, who was distressed by the depraved conduct of the lawless (for that righteous man, living among them day after day, was tormented in his righteous soul by the lawless deeds he saw and heard)—if this is so, then the Lord knows how to rescue the godly from trials and to hold the unrighteous for punishment on the day of judgment. This is especially true of those who follow the corrupt desire of the flesh and despise authority."
Explanation
These four passages from the Bible discuss various aspects of judgment, condemnation, and salvation. Here's a breakdown of each passage and how they relate to these topics:
  1. Romans 2:1 emphasizes that as humans, we have no excuse for judging others since we all fall short of God's standards (sin). It reminds us that we must be careful not to condemn others because we are just as guilty ourselves. This passage teaches humility and self-reflection while encouraging love and understanding towards others.
  2. Isaiah 43:25 portrays God as the one who forgives our transgressions for His own sake, and remembers our sins no more. It signifies that through faith in Him, we can be freed from the burden of our past mistakes and move forward towards redemption.
  3. Psalm 34:21-22 highlights the contrast between the wicked (those who act against God's will) and the righteous (those who follow Him). It suggests that those who trust in God will be rescued from harm, while the wicked will face punishment. In essence, it encourages us to live a life of obedience to God to secure our salvation.
  4. 2 Peter 2:1-10 describes the consequences of following destructive heresies and denying the sovereign Lord (false teaching). It warns about false teachers who will exploit others for personal gain, leading many astray from God's path. The passage also mentions examples of divine judgment in history to remind us that God is just and will hold the unrighteous accountable on the day of judgment.
Societal Relevance
As Christians, we can reduce the severity of condemnation or penalties by following Christ's teachings, such as loving our neighbors, showing compassion towards others, and living a life rooted in truth and righteousness. We should also be discerning when it comes to identifying false teachers and avoid their influences. To help combat false teaching in the modern world, we can study scripture thoroughly, seek wisdom from godly leaders, engage in open dialogue with other Christians about our beliefs, and share the gospel message with those who are lost or deceived by false teachings.

In the contemporary era, there are several forms of false teaching or heresies that Christians should be aware of. One example is the denial of the Trinity, which states that God exists as three distinct persons (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit) who are co-eternal and consubstantial with one another. This belief has been a fundamental tenet of Christianity since its inception as described in the Nicene Creed.

Another example is the denial or reinterpretation of essential Christian doctrines such as salvation by grace through faith alone (Sola Fide), the deity of Christ, and the resurrection of Jesus. These teachings are central to the Christian faith and have been consistently affirmed throughout church history.

Lastly, there is an increasing trend towards universalism or inclusivity, which asserts that all people will ultimately be saved regardless of their beliefs or actions. While it may seem appealing in its emphasis on love and inclusiveness, this teaching contradicts the biblical teaching on hell and eternal punishment for those who reject Christ. It's essential to remain grounded in the teachings of Scripture and the historical doctrines of the church to avoid being misled by false teachings that may seem appealing but ultimately lead away from a genuine relationship with God.

Luckily, by the grace of God, I have avoided false teachings, but with everything, it is easy to get sucked into false truths. As God is forgiving, He can show us the way to avoid being lead astray through the power of discernment. Humility is also important, and judging others less. By focusing on God more (as in listening to Christian music, making these devotionals and praying more), it seems that the Lord has guided me onto a better path. Remember, life is a spiritual war between flesh and the spirit. Jesus already won the war, we just need to win the battle by being on the side of the Lord.

For judgment will be merciless to one who has shown no mercy; mercy triumphs over judgment.
(James 2:13)

For with the same judgment you pronounce, you will be judged; and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you. (Matthew 7:2)

God bless.

Looks like I will have to make a devotional on these verses, if I have not already done so.

Hello Alex,

Did not Jesus say to Nicodemus that He came in the world to save it ?

"For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved." (John 3:17)

How can someone save and condemn at the same time ? Can the One who gives Life be a destructor ? What does a Saviour do ? He saves, that's all He do, and that's all He can do, because it is His nature. He only does good to man, even to the wicked, especially for him. "He maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good.

With kind regards, in Him,

Hugo

Yep, Jesus will save us, only for those who believe in and have faith in Jesus as Lord and Savior. We condemn ourselves, if we do not believe in Christ. John 3:16-18 are my favorite verses in the Bible.

Believe, yes, but in which way ? Believing in His existence, in His first name ? Or believing what He is, what He says, and what He does ? Because the answer makes a big difference. Jesus came into the world to save sinners,in their favour. He came for people who despise Him, and do not esteem Him. He does not impute us our faults because He knows our frame, what we are made of. He knows sin was imposed to us, that nobody choose to be a sinner. At least, I let you answer for yourself.

"Fury is not in me" says the Lord. Nor, yesterday, nor today, nor tomorrow. This is illustrated by the fact that Jesus says to Nicodemus that "God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son.
He so loved the world....as it is, not even yet saved by Jesus, because He says it before His death and resurrection. So God so loved the (non saved, sinners therefore) world. It is not only that He loved the world. No, Jesus says that He "so loved the world." Not only so loved, but so loved that He gave His only begotten Son. I don't know if you realise how huge the love of God is towards us...!
But let me ask you something. When Jesus says that to Nicodemus, is He talking about something "new" ? The answer, is just before :

"14 And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up:
15 That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life.
16 For God..." (John 3)
This "For God..." is based on what was written before. And here, when Jesus talked to Nicodemus, made a direct connection between what happen in the time of Moses, the man of faith, when he lifted up a serpent in the wilderness, in the book of Numbers, chapter 21.

So the answer is "no", it is not "new". It is a truth in God since a long time, since Moses' time, and even before. Because God is not a man, He does not change, He is the same eternally. And here, Jesus tells Nicodemus and to us that, in order to understand what will happen to Him, we must firstly understand what happened during Moses' time.
"...And as.......even so...."

Did you already heard what happened there ? And if not, would you be interested ?

I believe in what He is, what He says, and what He does, and I am a Christian. Are you questioning my Christianity? I have been Christian for a long time, baptized in 2013, and confirmed Catholic in 2022, but see the good in both Protestantism and Catholicism.

No Alex, I just wanted to make sure that we understand each other. In order to believe in someone, first, you need to know him. And that's what happened to Abram. Faith did not come by itself, but when the Lord met him for the first time in the Scriptures [in Genesis 12], the first thing He did, and it is really important, is that He made a Promise to Abram. For him, that is how all of this started. First, a Promise, from God, then, faith, in Him.

5 And he [the Lord] brought him [Abram] forth abroad, and said, Look now toward heaven, and tell the stars, if thou be able to number them: and he said unto him, So shall thy seed be.

6 And he believed in the LORD; and he counted it to him for righteousness. (Genesis 15)

Faith is not coming from man, we can not "produce" it, we do not even have to. Faith is coming from a Promise, coming from the Lord, saying that He, Himself, will take care of Abram, bless him, him and all the families of the world. So the basis of our faith is a Promise, from the Lord, that He committed Himself to fulfil, or at least, it should be.
This verses that you like are included in this Promise, and accomplished in Jesus-Christ.

So, if you're interested, and if all of this make sens to you, we can dive into the book of Numbers. By saying this, I wanted to know something : is it possible here to talk "face to face" ? Is there a private messaging system ?

Kind regards, in Him,

Hugo
