  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I have felt for a few weeks now that the Holy Spirit is leading me to leave my job so I can go into full time ministry. I'm asking you my brothers and sisters to pray for me. That is obviously a big decision and one that I can't make without being 100% certain. Just that I have wisdom to know the Lord's will here and the courage to do what needs to be done in any situation. Thank you!

What is the ministry position you are considering taking? Is it a paid position in a church?

At the moment? No, it is street ministry. Basically as I have understood what the Spirit is saying to me (assuming it is the Spirit). I will leave my full time job, get a part time job somewhere that I can have extra hours in the day to minister. I can donate plasma as well. Now understand, one last thing, I get a retirement check from the government every month due to my military service, so leaving my full time job wouldn't leave me or my family without income.

Let me qualify why I am asking:

Two different scenarios.

First is a paid staff position.
Does it pay sufficiently to take care of your family? Will you or you wife have to work additionally to supplement it?

I’ve been in both situations, while a blessing, there were some challenges with scheduling, school, kids etc that you should take into consideration.

Second, an itinerary or missions type ministry.
In which case I’ll share with you the advice my mentor gave me that helped me incredibly.

Don’t outrun your base. During the time that you’re building your ministry you may have to work to supply your needs. I generating is a very rewarding but very difficult ministry to be in. It’s all based on relationship and it takes time to build relationships with pastors and organizations and even a support base.

I’m currently a missionary to Europe and the Middle East I raise my own support and for the first 12 years I self funded my missions trip at the rate of about 80% of what it cost. It is only been the last 10 years or so that my trips are 90 to 100% fully funded .

When I’m not on the field I work for a living there’s a delicate balance in ministry because unfortunately money can put strain on any relationship.

Family comes first

Thank you for the sound advice my friend and brother.

At the moment, no it is not a paid staff position with any ministry that I feel led to. Just getting on the streets and ministering to people as I feel led. Perhaps getting a part time job to help supplement my retirement payments, but nothing full time as I have now.

Gods best to you.

Another thing I would hope you have is the covering of a local church and a pastor who you can submit to for sound advice, council and direction. Accountability in the ministry is everything
