I am new to this forum, and I was excited to see something like this. But as I read through some of the posts, these forums are not unlike other forums on the net. I mean what is the point of calling yourself Christian or "being" a Christian, if the way you live your life is unlike that of everyone else in the world?

The power of Christianity is declining because Christians don't even want to be Christians anymore, we want to fit into the world, we want to compromise.

I don't think Christ died on the cross for us to just blend in..Jesus called us to be light and salt of the Earth, in a nutshell, that would require us to stand out, do things differently. Influence people and don't let them influence you..We have the power of Christ..why don't we act like it??

This is a very general topic, but i guess my question is what do you do, if anything, to separate yourself from the world, and be of the world not in the world, as the Word (BIBLE) instructs us too..

Anyone feel the same way??

We are all children of God cwalla5. You want to separate yourself from the rest of the world and call yourself a christian? That sounds very anti-christian to me. And this forum is VERY different than others. I've found nothing but thoughtful and kind responses here. It is a really shame you don't see that, but from your statement above it sounds like you have a sad, negative outlook on life. I love you anyway! God Bless you!

I think the best thing Christians can do is let the Holy Spirit guide us as to what is and isn't right for us.

As you know, Jesus hung out with some of the worst of society. He probably would have given their choice of music a chance, and if there was something wrong with it, He would have let them know.

Being a Christian means being Christ-like in the world. Not necessarily beating others to death with our Bibles, but living what we believe so people know we are different.

so, by your argument, we're all compromising christians. We shouldn't blend in, so why don't we all drive bikes? because cars are the cool and hip thing to do. Why don't we eat old, ancient food dishes instead of these modern one's the world seems to like?

wierd. Just like there can be no, un-chrstian vehicle to use, or un-christian food to eat, there can be no un-christian music to listen to.

of course, thats the music. There are defenitely un-christian words, and such words are put into music, we like to call them lyrics, but some people just decide it's all the same.

anyway, by your argument, i'm the least compromising christian here, mostly because i refuse to listen to music even you probably listen to.

I think you're right to an extent, but then you're also saying that no one on here is Christian or a follwer of Christ (okay, you may have not meant it, but you said it). I personally think the way Christians are right now is not where we are supposed to be. The american church is lukewarm. Then on the other hand, Jesus wasn't in the Church, he was dirty, on the street, talking to the outcasts... hmm, I think there's a lesson were missing (read The Lost Message of Jesus, excellent book!) As far as music, we do need to be careful. But I think the lines are finer than "Christian" and 'Secular" because when a "compromising" Christian wants to make music for more than just Christians, when they have a message for the world, when they want to simply make music. they are all of a sudden compromising Christians...

Take Bono, take others. Its basically the church telling a missionary that he's not Christian since he is working in India, and they don't think we should work in India because its not "Christian enough." Hmm... secular music, its not "Christian enoguh"...

Hello,

Your question is:

what do you do, if anything, to separate yourself from the world, and be of the world not in the world, as the Word (BIBLE) instructs us too..

Thank you for asking the question.

What we each need to do, if we have not done so already, is acquire the fruit of LOVE into our lives & embed it into each of our souls. Without this fruit there is not one of us here who can truly remain united under the wings of the most high and/or continue preaching Christ's kingdom in all its entireties in complete Truth, compassion & servitude.

For those who lack love, we will continue to uplift them in all our prayers and showing them God's unconditional love and compassion through us (Jesus does all), so that they too will want to hunger and thirst for what God has so lovingly and graciously given to each of us at the Cross.

Let us continue to encourage, edify and Love all.

Thank you all for reading.

And GB,
jesus saves

I guess if people want to, they can only listen to Christian music. And only watch Christian Movies and TV shows. And only read Christian Books. And only study Christian Paintings.

But I don't think Christianity is about creating a life-style that makes you ignorant of culture, art, and literature. Sorry.

well if you seculed yourself to just christianity or anything you start losing touch with reality. I mean reality sucks but you need to keep in touch witht the things around you, whats going on and whatnot. The word you need to keep in mind is moderation(which humans really have a hard time doing)
