Compromise Reached on “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” « The Speakers Lobby
I don't see how this is a compromise. It allows the DOD to repeal DADT.
I guess that means DOD(Dept of DEfense) does not have to repeal it?
Are the Democrats playing Pontius Pilate with this issue?
Let the military decide what to do. My hands are clean.
I am not in favor of a snap change. The military must plan and make changes slowly, so discipline is maintained. Social actions must establish
education and decide how to handle the new circumstances that will occur when both sides are forced to deal with homosexuality in everyday life.
No matter how slow the change, people on both sides will over-react, and
will face conduct unbecoming, sexual harrassment, and other charges. There will be some that will act like construction workers, expressing thier new freedom in negitive ways, and on the other side, there will be those that would harrass and torment those that would come out. Some will not be able to continue in the military, but there are some that just need redirection, and a reminder that they are in the military and no matter what your sexual orientation, you will behaive like a member of the military.
The three, according to Levin, have outlined their position in a letter to the Pentagon. "It authorizes DOD to repeal," Levin said, but he would offer no more detail, as the negotiations are sensitive.
