What differences do you notice? President Reagan mentioned nothing about himself or his agenda and did not use it as a platform for campaigning. He talked about promoting peace and why we lose it. U.S. HEALTH CARE FOR VETERANS CUT IN BUDGET DRAFT (Published 1985)

President Reagan's draft budget for the fiscal year 1987 would cut spending on veterans' health care benefits by reducing the number of people treated and, for the first time, by requiring insurance companies to help pay the costs.

Harry N. Walters, the Administrator of Veterans Affairs, warned that cutbacks in spending and staff could ''ultimately result in a reduced quality of medical care'' for veterans. He made the comment in a letter to the Office of Management and Budget, which wrote the proposals.

The draft 1987 budget, to be submitted to Congress in early February, would require many veterans to show financial need to receive care. It would also provide no money for new nursing homes for veterans even as the number of older veterans is rising rapidly because of the large number of men who served in World War II.

then your point is not well represented in the OP. Because, the way i read both, that post is VERY to the point of the OP.

That said, i am not for politicians use any platform for their own marketing/campaigning. But politicians will always be politicians.

Reagan wasn't running for office. He was already on his second term. And some argue he had no agenda to promote.

Why are you putting Ronald Reagans speech up? What about Bush, Obama and Trump or even Reagans speech, Before their their possible second term. Also these speeches don't run the country.

Beau decided to go voluntarily (against his dad's wishes if I recall).

With regards to Regan's kids, he had 3 daughters (which aren't eligible for active combat duty), and Ron Reagan, who's a devout liberal and anti-war.

You think I meant "forced"?

I meant had. As in had it happen to them. Like I had a rock hit my windshield.

So one of those presidents gets to experience their own kid going off to serve. The other doesn't and makes wars only for other people kids to serve in, as you noted.

He did adopt a boy. But there may be rules about an only son not being able to go to war. I'm not 100 percent sure.
