  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I'm a commuter. I drive to and from school everyday. And is it frustrating. I am told nothing that goes on. My school is very small (total of 300 students). Most of the staff knows everyone. People call my name and I have never met them before. But I am told nothing when it comes to schedule changes, required events, etc. I feel like tearing my hair out. Ok, so this was a ranting thread... :sorry:

I commute too Lizzi 80 miles a day Monday, Wednesday, Friday. It stinks, but I keep to myself. They should call you about schdule changes and remind you about required events...maybe that's something you should touch upon in class or to the Dean?

When you commute, even if it's just a few blocks away, you can't get plugged in like someone living on campus. You just can't. So I think lizzi is expressing her frustration at that fact.
Since I'm an old man, it's not so bad for me cause college students don't want to hang out with an old married guy anyway.
But it sucks when you're a freshman.

Ok to clarify my rant ;)

It's partially the fact of the school itself. Commuters aren't told about required events. We're not told about changes. All the on-campus students know these things. But not commuters.

It's partially what Cheese said. Everyone already has these little groups of friends. I'm left out. No one even acknowledges me. I try to talk, but being shy, it's really hard. So it's frustrating as heck.

You have to spend time at school when you are not required to be there for class. Join a club and make friends so they will contact you with stuff you need to know in a timely manner. I work a part time job with some of my fellow students to keep myself 'in the loop' on school activities since I am married and don't party with my peers.
