• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

I recently commented on a thread dealing with sexual lust and I got to thinking about this verse. Matthew 5:28-But I say unto you, that whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath comitted adultery with her already in his heart. Do you think Jesus was just pointing out the obvious fact that yeah when we lust we do see ourselves engaged with our object of affection or was he saying we are literally guilty of the act of adultery. This has always puzzled me.Theres not a person alive who has total control over their thoughts. Its like someone else has the tv clicker alot of the time, things just pop up. I've always leaned toward this just being commentary. Some new mothers are afflicted with baby blues and have thoughts of killing their babies, does that make them murders? I'd like to see what you think.

There is a difference between thinking/seeing something and entertaining the thought.
Satan tempted Jesus, the situation was presented and Jesus chose not to own the thought but reject it. That is what we are to conform to. The problem with entertaining thoughts as those, it progresses in time. Just like how people get drawn into porn, they see it, then start to look at it, then start to search out harder stuff as the old stuff becomes the old familiar because it never satisfies. In time as that progresses, they are in full blown situation of sin and all sick inside from it.

It just starts from simply not turning the thought away in the first place. Once that stops, stops resisting it, it plants a seed that grows in time, each time it is watered with another thought of the like. Best to just toss those seeds back when they come, don’t let them get planted and grow. Pull the roots out if they are already there.

In time it will be easier to resist. Still will be tempted, but you will get used to turning the thought away by reflex action. Best to not let yourself be exposed to that stuff on tv. I tend to keep locks and limits on, even though I’m the only one watching the tv when I do. Whatever precautions you can take to protect your mind, including being constantly washed in scriptures which is important. Good to get into a church fellowship right away too. Christians become spiritually dyslexic in time when they don't.
