  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hi, Rik. People who have not been churchgoers earlier in life almost always are nervous about showing up to face unfamiliar people and a possibly confusing ceremony. However, it works out fine if you just come in, allow a usher to seat you, do what the others do -- or not, if you prefer (that's OK, too). Act as though you are pleased to be there to visit, if anyone, seeing a stranger, thinks to offer some sort of welcome.

As for which church to attend, that may take some investigation, but the more liberal ones would include the United Church of Christ, The Episcopal Church, and possibly the United Methodist Church. Do not feel that you have to ask about membership in the short run; most churches are happy enough just to see a visitor come back with some regularity.

Just visit. You don't have to leave a name. Check out a variety of different places. Ask God to reveal to you which places He would want you to go to. Don't settle for your preconceptions, but be willing to be led.
