"We share in Jesus's sufferings in order to share in his glory" (Romans 8:17)

Life on earth is like a tough army assault course--
"All creation groans in pain from the beginning til now" (Romans 8:22)

And it can get rough:-
"We must go through many hardships to enter the kingdom of God" (Acts 14:22)

Jesus welcomes anybody into his squad:-
"Whoever comes to me I'll never turn away" (John 6:37)

And he'll lead by example:-
"To follow me you must carry your own cross daily" (Luke 9:23)

The C.O. shows no favouritism:-
"God didn't spare his own son" (Romans 8:32)

So if he can hack it so can we:-
"We share in Jesus's sufferings in order to share in his glory" (Romans 8:17)

And others have stayed the course too:-
"I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith" (2 Timothy 4:7)

Then if we pass the selection test we win the Gold Beret:-
"Blessed is the man who perseveres under trial, because when he has stood the test, he will receive the crown of life.." (James 1:12)

The Christian life is not for buttercups. Before embarking on the life of a disciple of Christ, one ought to count the cost. But, as Jesus said, "Without me, you can do nothing." (John 5:4-5) We don't "stay the course" by our own self-effort, but by his power; we don't "hack it" by dint of our own strength, but by the power of the indwelling Spirit of God (Romans 8:13; Philippians 2:13; Philippians 1:6; Philippians 4:13; 1 Thessalonians 5:23-24, etc.); we don't "pass the selection test" on our own merits and effort, but solely on the basis of our trust in Christ as our Savior and Lord (Ephesians 2:8-9; 2 Timothy 1:9; Titus 3:5-8; John 3:16; Romans 10:9-10). It's a tough life, walking with God, which is why we absolutely must be anchored firmly in The Power Source for all that we need to be as He has called us to be.
