Does anyone else consider guard their dance? I wasn't involved in dance until guard, but now that I am, I realize the amount of ballet involved.

CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

gosh yes! you need the fluid movements to make it all come together.can I ask what music you're moving to? we did Jesus Christ Superstar in highschool until some people turned that around and took it away.the music is key too. so this is very sweet,I havent heard anyone doing color guard in ages! carry on! symphy

Dance is definately a HUGE part of Guard!! I was in color/winter guard all four years of high school and miss it so much, but i keep up on my dance stuff by going to my school's dance studio at least once a week. I am going to be trying out for color guard when i transfer in the fall to a bigger school. Up until my freshman year of HS i was the clutziest girl around, then i started learning ballet and other kinds of dance and discovered that my poise improved and my overall balance...and you know...i was actually graceful!!

Thanks for your support!!! We ended up going to the state competition. Out of all of the guards that competed to go to state and also those that went, we ended up 26th out of 82 (I'm not sure about the 82, but that's close.) There were 30 guards at state. Our highest caption was movement/dance, in which we were placed 11th. It topped off a really good season; we haven't been to state since 2001.
I know 100% about what you're talking about! With the expception of some ballet/tap and gymnastics when I was little, I had no dance experience until I joined winterguard in the 8th grade. The phrase "I was actually graceful!" definitely applies to me also.

I would consider it dance.. I mean for tryouts at my school there is a dance section where if you cant dance its a lot harder to make it. I'm not actually on it yet but tryouts for me are in a few weeks and I hope to make it since I was too sick during tryouts to get a chance to tryout. hopefully things will go better this year.

lets get this thread moving again!! I was in Colorguard in high school (only 2 years there since I marched 1 yr of clarinet) and then 4 years in college. I also did one year of independent winterguard. I had so much fun in colorguard.
WhenFinallySetFree I know i've seen you around here lately. I think I'll go tell Lillybug about it too. Maybe we could make a club or something. Or just talk about guard memories, etc here! What do ya say?
