Name: Cole Hardt
Gender: Male
Age: 31
Height: 5'11"
Weight: 180 pounds
Occupation: Con artist/thief
Appearance: Cole is a man who blends in. There are really no features that stand out about his appearance. He's average height and weight. No scars, no tattoos, no outrageous clothing or missing teeth, and he wears no jewelry. And that's the way he likes it. His eyes are a soft, forest green and seem to twinkle when he's amused, a bit inset underneath thin eyebrows. His hair is a rather messy dark brown that hangs in slight waves almost to his shoulders if it's not tied back in a ponytail at the nape of his neck. Even so, strands manage to escape on most occasions and hang about his face. He's clean-shaven with a strong jaw and a slightly cleft chin accenting a somewhat roman nose. He could be considered handsome, but generally doesn't like to appear so since that might draw attention.
His clothes consist mainly of softer and dark colored tunics, nothing too outstanding, along with black or brown breeches tucked down into dark brown leather boots. His weapon of choice is a gladius which hangs on his right side as he is left-handed, his only really discernable feature and something he wishes wasn't fact. He also carries various smaller weapons tucked away in his boots or belt or cloak and never goes out unarmed.
Personality: It's difficult to ascertain Cole's personality for it changes from day to day depending upon the role he's currently playing. He's just as convincing as an uneducated stable hand or a shoemaker as he is playing the part of a rich nobleman or even part of a town guard, all of which he has undertaken in the past and been successful with. But, in general, Cole is a loyal man, honest with those he deems worthy of it, while easily lying to the rest. He has very few qualms about his line of work, tricking people out of their money, and only really regrets it when he tricks or steals from those who really don't have much money to speak of in the first place. He is intelligent and cunning and enjoys figuring out puzzles. Though he has a sense of humor, it is most often sarcastic and dry. And even though he can be very successful with women when he wants to be, he prefers not to romance women and to stay out of relationships as he views both to be entirely too complicated and difficult. His smile comes easily when he isn't in a particular character, but when the situation calls for it, he is the type of man who can win a staring contest hands down with anyone at any time, no matter what people might be doing in the background to distract him or make him laugh. He is very focused and, when on the job, tends to exclude anything that doesn't pertain to that particular job. He also tends to be very secretive about most aspects of his life and stubborn when he knows he's right about something.
Background: Not too much is known about Cole's early years. In fact, one might even say he sprouted up out of the ground a fully-grown nineteen-year-old man, which is the year he began his life of crime. Some have postulated through the years that he is the illegitimate son of Lord Edward Hardt and his then-mistress, a tavern maid named Rosa, growing up living above the tavern with all manner of immoral behavior all around him. Which could have contributed to his current occupation. This theory he neither confirms nor denies, preferring to focus on his accomplishments when he became a con artist. Most jobs he will do for himself, keeping the profit. Sometimes, however, he'll find himself taking a job from someone, looking to gather specific information or to steal a particular item, then be paid handsomely for its procurement. It is the general consensus that Cole is a very wealthy man from all his years of thievery, but he will never admit to anyone just how much money or how many possessions he has acquired.
Nearly a year ago now, Cole found himself in a position to take a certain job that would make a handsome sum of money. However, there was a catch. He needed a partner for it. And not just any partner. Someone good. Someone convincing. The only man he could think of was one he had worked with briefly some years before on another job. Rafferty Sterling. Upon reaching Rafferty's manor, he found that the younger man had fallen into some trouble and was in bad need of money. Cole pitched the job to Rafferty and the two struck an accord, almost immediately heading out to accept the con job.
