  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I did find this reference to the Tribute Penny of Matthew 18:20-21, with the Emperor Tiberius on it:

(from www.forumancientcoins.com)

But Jesus, knowing their evil intent, said, "You hypocrites, why are you trying to trap me? Show me the coin used for paying the tax." They brought him a denarius, and he asked them, "Whose portrait is this? And whose inscription?"
"Caesar's," they replied.
Then he said to them, "Give to Caesar what is Caesar's, and to God what is God's."

The Bible mentions several different kinds of coins... which of these have been identified?

Any experts out there?

Hi there!

Coins came into being about 600 BCE. Before that time, money was measured by weighing the gold or silver, but someone with real "brains" came up with the concept of minting coins with a universal weight.

I don't know that there are any coins in the Bible that have not been found at some point. The widow's mite many times are made into matching earrings, and ancient coins are sold as medalions on chains, the price is dependent upon how rare the coin is... as much as $1200 per coin.

You might find this site interesting, or one similar by doing a google...

The widow's mite, or two mites was the cost of a public bath in ancient Roman and Byzantine times.
