  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I can't believe this . . but I should . .the attacks do not cease . . .

You thought the DiVinci Code was bad . . . . now CNN is airing a documentary Sunday evening called The Two Marys , and from how they are hyping this, the DiVinci Code is nothing compared to what they are going to "reveal" Sunday night . . . . CNN claims it will cause a revolution in centuries old theiological thought, especially about Mary, the two Marys, and the place of women in the Church . . .

From what I could see, they are going after the Church, claiming that the Church cannot continue to alientate half of its members like is has all these centuries and survive (think women priests) . . I felt like getting on the phone and saying I feel very much a part of the Catholic Church, not alientated in any way thiank you very much!

This is a frontal attack on the Catholic Church . . revisionist history in the making, right before our eyes on TV . . . .

Now .. remember Don Bosco's vision . . . the Ship is to be moored between two pillars . . . the Eucharist and Mary . .

so what is CNN attacking? . . . . . . . Mary . . . of course. . . .

I think we all need to be aware of what CNN is doing, and to be vocal about it to CNN and whoewver else needs to hear about this . . . CNN is going to be promoting this all weekend . . (I don't know when it started, but it was promoted several times within an hour just a little while ago . . )

CNN is promoting this as something that is going to be even more disturbing than the DiVinci Code . . . something that is going to strke at the very herat of centuries old theological thought and teaching (ie Catholic without speicifically mentioning it, but while showing several shots of Catholics worshipping in mass) . . .

It doesn't look like they are going to try to paint Mary Magdeline as Jesus' wife, or a prostitute, but as a wealthy woman who financially supported Jesus' ministry . . and who knows what else . . apostle?

Mary, The Mother of our Lord? well . . . they haven't said too much, but have hinted that she was a first century femenist . . . .

So get ready . . . we are going to be hearing about this, and dealing with the fallout for a while here at CF I beleive . . .

(Can't we just have a peaceful Chrsitmas without the media trying to tear apart our cherished and sacred beliefs?)

CNN's job is to sell ads.
CNN gets money for ads by getting viewers.
CNN gets viewers by finding ways of attracting them.
CNN gets attention by garbage like this.

For many in the media, there is no bad publicity.. all they want is ratings.

I'd like to know who is going to advertise during this.

The Catholic Church has seen worse than the pathetic CNN channel, which is trying to cover from ratings lost by Fox News... the only half competant news network out there.

The end times, protestants getting "ready" for the rapture, the Bush Christian collation, the creation/evolution controversy, the gay marriage controversy, the abortion controversey, the banning of christian symbols from public places,no more christmas, the rise of Islam and secularism and now the media mocking mary..

Honestly Christianity has a very grim future ahead..

From what I understand,. . . it is commercial free . . .1 solid hour . . . but when I looked again, they say certain CCN Presents will be aired commercial free .. . so I am not sure if it means this one too or not . . .

This does not sound good. :(

Just remember Matthew 16:18-19:

And I say to thee: That thou art Peter; and upon this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. And I will give to thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven. And whatsoever thou shalt bind upon earth, it shall be bound also in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth, it shall be loosed also in heaven.

Exactly. Both Christmas and Easter are pivotal times for dissention. To not see this as an agenda, calculated is beyond me.

We surely are getting close to the repression of Christianity. No Christian symbols displayed in the public square, no mention of Jesus unless when used in vain, the very name of Christmas is denied by calling the holiday a "winter soltice" (a Nazi term coming from Theosophy), trees representing our faith, Santa being stripped down as a symbol of consumerism, and Easter, the most important time for Christians as a time of mourning and rejoicing, is fair game to discuss its fitfalls and revisionist history.

Revisionism has been alive and well historically. I would love to see what some would say if during Yom Kippur we broadcast shows that asked if the Holocaust really happened, or during the "Stonewall" remembrance whether homosexuals were perverts who loved bathhouses. What if on Earth Day a broadcast on CNN concerned the eco-terrorists who, even through their terrorism, are allowed to protest in front of any building they want (in contrast to pro-lifers).

A mess this is.

Hey all! Well, I know I'm not Roman Catholic, but I do consider myself catholic in the Anglican rite, and I certainly hold many of the same beliefs you do. And one of my most cherished beliefs is that of Mary as our Blessed Mother. I find it absolutely offensive and disgusting that CNN would stoop so low as to begin attacking her. What do they think they are going to accomplish? I believe that this will have just the opposite effect they want. If they are trying to cause people to doubt the Church, then I say let's make sure that doesn't happen! I don't know about you, but I'm not going to let my faith be shaken because of some misinformed people and their socio-political anti-church agendas. The Church will come through once again, and even stronger than it was before!

Christ's peace be with all of you! :crossrc:

I couldn't agree more PeterPaul.

(By the way, I didn't know that "winter soltice" was a Nazi term)
It was a German pagan ritual of fire historically. Check this out, from "Salvation is from the Jews":

The 1935 German Farmer's Almanac provides an example of this replacement of Christianity. In it every single Christian feast day was replaced with a pagan celebration, earning the following protest from the Catholic Bishop of Trier:

"I am surprised and deeply shocked that the Reich Agricultural Corporation, to which every German farmer, man and woman, must belong, should have offered this Almanac...it is a deep insult to every Christian and Catholic feeling. The Saints' Days, the mention of every Christian Feast Day, even Christmas, Easter, and the Pentecost, have disappeared. January 6th (The Three Kings) is "The Three Asir Day", Feb. 23 (The Feast of St. Peter's Chair) is the "Feast of Thor's Chair." Ash Wednesday is "Ash Woden's Day." On Maundy Thursday, the feast of the institution of the Blessed Sacrament, there takes place the "consecration of the night-light oil." Easter, the Resurrection of our Lord, is the 'Feast of Ostara" (a German Spring goddess)...Christmas Eve is "the Birthday of Baldur, god of Light, and the Visit of the Infant Yule."

Another Bishop, the one following him, on New Year's Eve, 1937 said:

You have heard of the so-called Winter Solstice's celebration. A few years ago I said: "I am not sure whether there lies therein a hidden danger for our youth." Today I am sure. The artificially stirred-up old Germanic pagan Consecration of Fire is meant as a direct challenge to the highest mystery of our religion, the Incarnation of Jesus Christ on the Holy Night of Bethlehem...."

He then quotes from the Fuhrerdienst (Hitler Youth section):

"At another meeting the Winter Solstice will be celebrated. We have to train our young members in order to enable them to celebrate this Christmas stripped of all the parasitical excrescences which were implanted in the hearts and minds of the German people by the Christian denomination."

I think it's a slap in the face for anyone that honors, reveres and loves the Mother of God. I do agree with you though that it is primarily aimed at Catholics, who it seems are an acceptable target for ridicule in the media in this country. Do you think you will be seeing exposes anytime soon on the inconsistencies or violent aspects of the Qu'ran, militant Hindus attacking Nuns serving the Dalits in India who are still subject to the caste system, American Dispensationalism and its support of Zionism? Don't hold your breath in anticipation of any of those.

I'll tell you what . . my faith isn't going to be shaken . . . but I think the liberal element in the Church is going to be stirred up by this "documentary". . . the clips I saw seemed to be very much geared to trying to force an issue to the surface . .that of the ordination of women . . .

And this, though primarily aimed at the Catholic Church, affects our Orthodox Brethern as well, and all those in Protestantism who do not ordain women . .

For those who are weak in their faith . . . . and for all who could be swayed by such deception . .

Lord have mercy
Christ have mercy
Lord have mercy . .

You know... I just can't understand why people claim women in the Catholic Church are opressed. Or why they keep perverting the word 'feminism'. In it's origins ( a long time ago) feminism was a movement that wanted the work of women and her place in the home to be valued, exactly as what the Church has always taught.

On an interesting, feministic sidenote however... today in the teachers library at school I borrowed a book about children who cause problems in class. I read the first article and I think I should FRAME it: it openly and honestly said: "look, men and women are DIFFERENT" we shouldn't fight that, we should work with it. Each sexe with it's own strong points and weaknesses should complement the other. I guess science is catching up on what we've known for centuries?
Mary a feminist? *chuckles* A good woman, a strong woman, etc. That doesn't make her a feminist.

Here is a letter posted by someone else that they received from CNN in explanation of this show after inquiring . . I don't know where it is online at CNN, but this matches what I heard earlier this morning (though not as explicit as what was on TV):
