  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I just have to say cloth diapers rock. Seriously. I am so addicted. I even use cloth wipes now, also. Anyone else here addicted to cloth diapers. I thought with cloth diapers you have to use pins but I was mistaken. There are so many different types of cloth diapers to choose from. The great thing is you can sell them for good money when you are finished as well. I have been using them for five weeks now and am feeling pretty frugal. I am trying to convert my friends!!

Just thought I would mention it.

I am almost a fanatic just because I have saved so much money already! When my lil' one has big sized poop, I may change my position. I will still be cloth diapering but probably won't be as fanatic. I will actually probably purchase flushable liners. So, I guess I am not a total purest.

I love our cloth diapers too. I wish I had taken the time to get educated on cloth diapers when my daughter was a baby. We tried the pins and quickly gave up and went to disposable. If only I had known there easier choices out there!

I used to love 'em, but now I'd rather pay for Huggies. Guess it's cause we couldn't afford anything better than Gerber.

You'd be surprised how cheaply you can get cloth diapers. I bought 12 chinese pre-folds and 6 whisper wraps, new, for a total of $70. That's what you'd spend on disposables in a month!

Hey, where do you get cloth pads from?

I have heard of those but am not sure of the thought of them if you know what I mean.

How do you clean them?

There are a number of places online you can buy them- just google 'cloth menstrual pad'. I made my own from old t-shirts (cut to the standard shape, layers, press studs on the 'wings' etc)

I like them for environmental and comfort reasons, I soak them straight away in cold water (special bowl in the bathroom for this purpose) then just chuck them in the wash with nappies or towels.

Our problem is having $70 extra. We buy enough diapers to last one week as that's all we can afford. Every two weeks, if I'm lucky, I get to put money in an emergency fund. Maybe some day we'll be able to, but probably not with Remi. :sigh:

I made Conny's fitted cloth diapers from my husband's old t-shirts and sweatshirts. (The ones with armpit holes and sweat stains.) Then used snappis or diaper pins to hold them in place then used a gerber plastic cover over them. I was basically forced into cloth when I realized my parents were on a 3 week vacation and we had zero money for food let alone diapers. (My parents were the one's who would buy the diapers when we ran out) I scrounged around the house for change and with 15 dollars had our first set of cloth diapers. I used the gerber covers until I had enough to purchase some better quality covers but even then I only spent $60 for our covers. I'm still using them and it has been almost 2 years. I'm not trying to push you into something you don't want to do but if it is something that you want to do it can be done with very little money. I guess I'm just trying to encourage you.:sorry:

I bought mine from new moon cloth pads website. She's in canada, but I got them fairly fast...
I haven't used them yet, because I'm breastfeeding... but, my friend has them and says, they're great... you just throw em in normal... I believe the website has washing instructions also.

Nateboy, could you go to the Pregnancy forum and update the thread where your baby's birth was announced? Everyone's wondering if he or she is OK!

Hubby and I are talking about buying me a sewing machine so I can make cloth diapers, blankets, and some clothes. Once I get the hang of it I'm gonna open an online store. So I can save money and make money at the same time.
