CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

For me, it's walking a spiritual path that allows me to personally tailor my worship and communication to Divine within my own soul as a temple and without bounds of doctrine or congregation... but that's just me.

The best way to get closer to God is no secret at all... The Bible.. He has revealed Himself and His plan through his Word, and by it along can we get a closer to God and who He is.
Another way (which is to be used with the latter) is prayer. Pray often, without ceasing.
In the Bible, I would say to read Philippians, it has alot to do with pressing on. Also 1 and 2 Thessalonians... The best way is fellowship with him
There are other ways as well, hearing the Word of God spoken on, and fellowshiping with ther Christians.. Like hanging out, ect...

I once heard an interesting conversation over how people could get closer to God through conflict, pain, and peril.
I still agree with the author Paulo Coehlo that an awareness of death breeds an awareness of life.
I believe that an awareness of life and our own consciousness is a way to get closer to whatever God may be.

Read all the letters to the churches (basically anything that ends with "-ans"), they are packed with good stuff. Don't speed read them though. I reccomend just one chapter in the morning, then use the rest of the day to think about what you read when you get the chance. Then re-read it that night. It sound slow and repetitive (which it is) but I found that you get alot more out of the Bible that way.
