Most overweight issues are discipline related not medical problems...

This is so untrue it's almost laughable. Today's diet is radically different than the early 1900's where foods were not chemically processed or genetically modified. These types of foods play a very heavy chemical interaction with metabolism, digestion, immune response and brain chemistry.

Today's society is also radically different than the early 1900s. There are many societal issues that contribute to disordered eating and obesity.

So plant a garden in your back yard.

If you cannot afford to own a back yard, they ruined your life.

Those that prevent you from having a back yard to plant good food in.

Fatness is wicked. Whether it is a sin or not, God can judge.

There is nothing in the Bible that says fatness is wicked. Please read a few science articles on obesity before making a hardcore judgment like that because you don't know what you are talking about.

I gained 40 lbs and my back hurt's. It is wicked.

You're the one choosing to judge yourself this way. Take the wicked judgment out of the equation and just work on yourself instead of condemnation. Everyday we can work on ourselves and be more Christlike if we want to. Christ considered our bodies temples for the holy spirit so I think anything we do or say negatively, in hatred or judgment against our bodies is essentially against Christ.

You sound very sweet, but my metabolism is very active and I have a mind to lose that 40 lbs. I gained unwillingly. Since I have gained these 40 lbs, i have felt pain and tiredness that I have never felt before. Gaining too much weight is wicked and I intend to lose it. God willing. I am for you losing any weight as well and any of your friends or any other poster. I have been skinny for so long and I cannot manage being overweight, it doesn't fit me. I cannot handle it. I want to cycle while I eat and watch tv. Run when I wake up too early and lift heavy weights when I have nothing better to do.

Amen. Our bodies are Temples. I'm also waiting for the weeds to be plucked from it. Being overweight isn't good for us.

I choose not to ridicule my body, my weight, or my behaviors. Instead I look at how do my emotions affect my mind and my behaviors that cause me to choose to binge and not take care of myself. I don't practice condemnation at all if I can help it or label myself or my behaviors as wicked or evil. God knows society and dysfunctional families have done enough damage to us as women living under the condemnation and objectification wagon. For me it works to say I no longer judge or condemn myself but I do everything i can to love myself as Christ loves me.

Some people are just genetically overweight. They may have a harder time losing weight or a weaker metabolism. God created us all unique!

Yes it seems "not my fault" is apopular path.

I've weighed as much as 270 lbs, currently at 215 for my 6'2" height I'm still considered "overweight" according to BMI charts...and I have no excuse other than lack of discipline and a lazy approach to diet and exercise...but maybe I can blame genetics and culture and society for my problem

What really disgusts me about your comment is how biased it is. You have no clue what you are talking about at all. I never once said we aren't responsible for what we put in our mouths as well as exercising, but there are many reasons WHY people do the things they do and WHY the biochemical responses are so strong in people who are overweight or have eating disorders. You act like it's all about choice but it's much much more than that. You need to research obesity and eating disorders before you start this judgmental claptrap that has no basis and on hard science!

Yes it seems "not my fault" is apopular path.

Ain't that the truth.....

People can blame our food, society, etc all they want to justify their laziness. I believe the biggest problem with our weight today (especially in the U.S.) is our sedentary life style. Everything is a bit too "convenient" nowadays and just too "automatic".

I point the finger at myself, too. I'm a bit wider around the waist than I should be; however, it's nobody's fault but mine. I sit around watching TV or reading instead of doing something to help get rid of this ever-expanding spare tire. In other words....it's me being lazy.

It's so easy to blame something else for our shortcomings. That way we can feel better and say "we're not sinning" if it's not our fault. If something or someone else is causing them to act/be this way, then they're "clean" before the Lord. Folks just don't like being honest with themselves nowadays. People just don't take responsibility for their own actions (or lack of action) anymore. Lie to yourself all you want.....you can't lie to the Maker.

Is being fat itself "wicked"? In my opinion it's not. If anything is "wicked", it's our sloth, gluttony (in many cases), and general refusal to accept that for the most part IT'S OUR OWN FAULT!

Again, being overweight is different for every person. There is psychology involved, environment, brain chemistry, upbringing, family history and genetics that all go into why people are obese. It is really easy to make judgment calls when you have no clue what you are talking about. Oh well, enough said.

How's that high horse of yours ride? Pretty good?

A great deal of the obesity in the world is caused by lifestyle, I agree. But the way you're posting is a slap in the face to those who have no way of helping it.

I'm disabled to the point that a walk through the grocery store puts me down for a day. I eat like a bird, but I'm still forty pounds overweight because I'm physically unable to exercise properly.

There are a great many others in the same predicament. Others still have glandular or hormonal issues such that they could eat a starvation diet and not lose an ounce.

You managed to lose a bunch of weight through diet and exercise, so now you sit in judgment of the lesser people. If you lived a day in my shoes, I guarantee you'd have a whole new perspective on the whole thing.

I'm speaking in general terms, if I was handicapped or had some kind of physical issue then yeah things would be different but the reality is those folks are a very small % of the obesity problem in the USA.

I agree.
Colossians 2:20-22 ESV

If with Christ you died to the elemental spirits of the world, why, as if you were still alive in the world, do you submit to regulations-- "Do not handle, Do not taste, Do not touch" (referring to things that all perish as they are used)--according to human precepts and teachings?

Whats it going to matter when this body is dead ?

When we stand before Christ to give an account, do you think your weight, physical fitness, or athletic ability is going to even come up ? Really?

I,ll tell you what will come up, "What did you do to glorify my name, and preach the Good News?"
