(I'm posting this at another forum as well)
Cleanliness and purity: I have a problem with it, and need some clarity in order to settle the issue.
I will need to expose myself in a way with which Im rather uncomfortable; nevertheless I feel it is necessary.
This, as you shall see, has to do with other issues with which Im properly dealing as well, so let's concentrate on the issue at hand. Id also like to say that if you want to avoid reading explicit material or are reading just out of curiosity, please dont continue.
Well, I recently masturbated viewing internet pornography and touched the computer mouse with the same hand with which I commited the act. Later that day I read an online book and occasionally consulted a dictionary that was sitting at the desk. This, however, I did without cleaning the mouse, which I usually do after I use the computer for the aforementioned sinful act(using water and cleaning products). I later used the same dictionary for reading other books, and now in my mind they are impure and need to be cleaned.
I have in fact cleaned or attemped to clean books before for the same reason, more than one time, as far as approximately one year ago, I think. The problem is that I don't know how to properly do it, it usually rather damages the books and takes too much time. A rather high price to pay for relief, so I'll rather deal with the root of the problem.
Im trying to read without going through the process of cleaning all the books, but its being rather difficult. There is this thought in my mind that Im commiting a sin and that God is going to punish me for it by making me unable to read. I continue, though, trying to just shrug it off, but I cant really get rid of the thoughts, and here is why:
I am just not completely sure that things physical are just not impure in the eyes of God anymore. I think of the purity laws in Leviticus and think that there just might be some spiritual rule according to which seminal fluid is impure. This boils down to a lack of a clear theological understanding of the reality of the New Covenant. If I can be sure that its all just in my head and that theres nothing impure with the books, then I will be able to just rebuke these voices in my head in the name of Jesus. Therefore, all I ask for is scriptural insight illuminating this very issue. Thanks.
