Cleaning a Rosary?

I have a black and grey rosary that puts off a metallic smell on my fingers when I use it. Not sure what kind of material it is, my priest gave it to me a few weeks ago.... I was wondering if you guys know of a way to clean it and get the smell to go away? It makes praying with it very distracting. Any help? I heard of possibly soaking it in vinegar but wasn't sure if this was right for it. Here is a picture of it:

Well soft metal will leave an odor at times as will the beads. If I were you, I'd just soak it in peroxide for a few minutes and see if that helps.
