  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

The hope of this thread for me is for some enlightenment on the issue of financial classes. "And the LORD God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it" The purpose of creation is the pleasure of God. Now this being the land of opportunity, by 19 I was making 10 grand a year not working, and now Im making 20 not even working. Also my career choice is just starting out. Once I actually start working Ill make some 60 grand a year. Now this all fell into my lap, I was given an oppurtunity, and I took it.
Now not all people are given the oppurtunity. "time and chance happeneth". Now gaining the initial capitol is most of the battle. Once I start making enough I can find other investment vehicles, whether it be stocks or a liquor store.
But saving up, stressful though it may be, is the largest battle. But the next Battle, management, is not meant for all people. You need a plan, and devising that plan takes alot of hardwork. Matter of fact, the reason why I became a Christian is because of the in depth research I had to do on Ethics, and once in ethics metaphysics, metaphysics epistemology, epistemology religion, religion Jesus Christ.
The people at the top are only there because they choose to be there, besides the billionaire families such as Trump. But then even Trump had to do the research to appease some of the richest and most powerful men in the nation. So wages are earned.
But even though Im doing what it requires to be very comfortable in life, and my prosperity is the reward, how do I deny an honest wage to garbage man? Or a fast food employee? Now I like the power of knowledge. I like power, and seemingly riches are going to accompany me, how far I take whatever I intend to do, is a matter of talent. That all men are given according to their talent. Now whatever I have is not actually given to me. I earn it in some task. So what do I say to the average joe who just wants to work for a living. He could search for oppurtunity, and find it, but hed prefer to just work for a living. He fills vital tasks, and works hard. Just because he didnt search out the high paying jobs should he be chastised to the point of poverty? Im sure everyone reading this has been broke, and its hell. I love God, but I like a beer here and there.
Not to make the first post to long, I digress to my CF philosophers.

I think that all valid accounts of moral goodness reduce to statements about positive emotional states, which are intrinsically valuable and the only intrinsic values. Money is a means to a means to an end, for instance a means to purchace an ice cream, which is a means to pleasantly satisfy appetite, that pleasant satisfaction being an intrinsically valuable phenomena.

Each human is dignifiesd and worthy of moral consideration because because of his potential for witnessing, or even being, intrinsic value or disvalue. In that sense he is an "end in himself". Ethics is concerned with the practical management of human value, or trying to harvest as much value as possible by ordering human affairs.

Issues of class, ownership, "fair" renumeration and money are only important insofar as they are either means or barriers to the ultimate production of intrinsic value. That is my general theory. As for insights regarding the ethical consequences of specific class structures, based on observations of various societies, I am not sure.

As for Eden, it was a garden of pleasure and delight, and to recreate and maintain that, or if that sounds impossible, an analogue, should be our highest moral aim.
