Guess it depends on your tactics and victory conditions. I really like to draw it out for a long term game when playing against the computer. Regicide is a nice one. I set me defences and dig in. I build my Civ and get to the pont where I can stock pile WMD's. Then I cook 'em. Oh what fun. Easy win.

Depends a lot on which civilization are you playing. I find it easier to win through cultural victories using Babylonians or Indians, as compared to other civilizations. Having said that, Cultural victory requires lots of cities so as to generate as many cultural points as possible. But that means you need to buy (fast build) buildings, which means you need cash. So the best choice of government for Cultural victory is usually democracy.

I think the easiest way to win is diplomatic victory.

World conquest gets more difficult after the discovery of Nationalism, because the computer usually sets up an excellent network of Mutual Protection Pact, which means you may have to fight 2 fronts at the same time. So try to capture as many cities as possible before your enemies have MPPs.

That's exactly the reason why I try to get at least one ally whenever I go to war. I like having the international pressure go MY way.

Anyone else like Conquests? I've found the Dromon very useful on archepelago maps - As the Byzantines I was able to bombard my opponents from the sea so badly that they stopped all their troop movements along costal roads, which made up at least 75% of of all thier roads.

Call to power is alot harder then other civ games IMO, mostly cause of the way they do their improvements.....ugh, takes forever to get one city improved much less all of them, other then that I LOVE the space / sea aspect of it, the only problem is ive never had anyone else get to space which means the cool space weapons dont do alot heh but space bombers rock , and the leviathon(sp?) was an awesome idea for a unit, i loved it, especially with the 1/3 movement rate heh.

Alpha Centauri and its ex-pack were really good too, i like those cause of the custom unit building, heh nothing like having an airplane with spy equipment or an armored terraformer hehe.

Havent played Civ3 yet....no time need to beat all the gmes i have now before i move on NWN anyone? hehe.

Yeah... I think that is one of the best feature of the game, although sometimes upgrading is tedious. My favourite combination is to get the Space Elevator as soon as possible, and build tanks with drop-pods. This allows me to get to any uncontrolled land square within one turn, and so I can invade a faction on the other side of the globe while they can't touch me. Unfortunately, sea bases has to be captured by ships.

I typically build as many cities for maximum territory coverage as I can, then try to put a stranglehold on my opponent's cash flow. If you can ramp up your cash production, you can just pay to speed up military production, and take out your opponents one by one.

I've played Civ3 for a while now and just recently started playing on Warlord level... I always won on Chieftain (had to actually turn off the cultural victory condition, kept winning before I was ready to "win") and since I moved up a level I havn't won but it is worth the challenege. Eventually it'll be too easy and I'll move up again.

civfanatics.com has a Civ II and Call to Power forum on it, I believe.
I would have mentioned that site had you not. Loads of info there.
