Hi there. I am Methodist. I have a question that seems to be a really huge debate! I need some help. What is the Christian belief on circumsicion? I am having a baby boy in March and we are having him circumsized, but many people on another board I am on ( for pregnant women) really have some nasty oppinions amd keep on harrassing me about it! Some people say it is not a Christian belief and that it is only a Jewish thing and that it is no where ever mentioned in Christianity to have a boy circumsized ( I regret I asked them this question!) .. Ok so Jesus was circumsized and he was Jewish, and wouldn't it mean that Christianity actually came from Judiaism ? Also wasn't this something that Moses spoke about? I know that is the OT I have read different parts of the Bible on this, but I wanted to know what you all think . Thank you in advance :) .

"Circumcision is nothing, and uncircumcision is nothing, but the keeping of the commandments of God." 1 Corinthians 7:19 (KJV)

It's not a requirement for Christians to be circumcised. Some people think it's healthier because it takes less work to clean it, but really, how hard is it to pull back that piece of skin to wash it? The doctor told me with my firstborn that there was no medical reason to be circumcised because you can teach your child how to clean himself. He said that the only valid reason to have it done would be for religious reasons because there's no medical reason for it. In my opinion, it just causes unnecessary pain. There is the rare occasion that it may be necessary. My nephew had to be circumcised when he was 2 years old because something didn't grow right down there. I don't know exactly what the problem was but the doc said it required circumcision. My sis told me that the problem was visible at birth but for some reason the doc didn't suggest circumcision then. But I would say that as long as everything's normal, there's really no reason to do it, unless you have a personal religious conviction about it.

I agree. You may also want to read Galatians. The NT says there is no reason for Gentile Christians to be circumcised.

That said, if you want to do it for medical reasons or just so he'll be like his daddy, I think that's a personal decision. It is becoming less and less popular in the US to circumcise non-Jewish babies. I wouldn't do it for the reasons cited by the other pregnant moms.

Have you asked your pastor?

i really don't know what to tell you on the religious aspect, but one thing i do know is that it can cause infection not to cause dirt gets trapped. Another thing...most boys are circumsized...and since it doesn't hurt anything, and in some ways helps to do it, i think you should, cause he will have to shower for gym and get made fun of...i mean it would just make his life easier.

guys dont make fun of guys for being circumsized anymore than he could be made fun of for having legs.
Having ones sexual organs modified makes one less natural not more natural.

well for what its worth, I have never seen or experienced anything like that.
Aside for normal jokes, if a guy were to actually point at my private parts and make fun of them, that would indicate that the person was demented and not inspire me to make surgical alterations to myself to compensate ;)

Yeah, but since it is becoming less popular to circumcize because people are becoming more aware that it's not really medically necessary in most situations, maybe by the time MOE975's son grows up it will be the norm to be uncircumcized and he won't get teased.

It all comes down to teaching your child how to clean himself. Those problems won't happen if they clean it.

I agree that circumcision isn't required of us any longer. And current medical opinion says there's no reason to. (But I did read a study that showed cic'd men were less likely to get AIDS, all other things being equal.)

BUT, I think God wouldn't have made the law to begin with if there wasn't a tangible benefit from it.

200 years ago common medical practice was 'bleeding' sick people, but the Bible has always said "Life is in the blood." Medical ideas come and go; the Bible stays the same.

I've heard circumcised penises are easier to keep clean and less likely to get VD when exposed. I've also heard women find cirucumcised men more attractive. I recommend getting it done because some men who are uncircumcised elect to do it later OUCH! , for whatever reason, and it's better to have it done early in life.
