  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Circumcision - is it a moral practice?

Well...? It comes up never now and again (this topic) so why not wake the sleeping beast? Are you "for", "against", or "no opinion"?

I'm against and don't plan on circumcising my future children.

My children (male of course) will be circumcised. I wouldn't say I am "for" it, as that seems to suggest I think all male children should have it done, which I don't.

As far as morals go…I cannot believe it is moral to surgically remove healthy, functional tissue from an individual who cannot consent or protest.

This is, quite honestly, a point that has plenty of merit.

It isn't going to effect my own decisions, but I understand why you, and others, object.

*Hey fellow hoosier:wave:

As far as the Bible concerned:

Do it, don't do it no one cares.

As far as health and such I've heard arguments for and against.

Sexual Health: Circumcision

I am for.

I'm against it. My wife is for it. My wife won out...

When my son learns that his sexual pleasure was lessened by the procedure, I'll have her explain herself. That should be interesting.

Don't forget that his sexual partner will be more sexually satisfied from it.

(since we were posting about unreliable studies I thought I should join in)

Thats highly subjective. Foreskin or lack thereof does not mean one is better or worse in the (marital) sack.

Hmmmm, let's see...

We cut off an extremely sensitive part of the body (while the baby is awake of course) packed with nerve endings that protects another part of the body (the glans) from being overstimulated and desensitized.

Nope, I can't see any reason at all to think sexual pleasure might be lessened..

If you cut off part of a girl's labia it's a human rights violation.

please show me any reputable study that shows that circumcised men have less sexual pleasure.

keep in mind, the body is extremely adaptive of missing parts: Some paralyzed people can achieve [bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse] because they develop a very sensitive spot just above the point where they are paralyzed.

Source: The Seattle Times: Health: Paralyzed women rediscover [bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse]

i've simply not seen any credible studies that show that circumcised males have worse sex than uncircumcised. It's not enough to say "the foreskin is sensitive, therefore cutting it off means worse sex" because that doesn't take into account the body's adaptivity.

We made sure the boys were not subjected to genital mutilation.

As far as morals go…I cannot believe it is moral to surgically remove healthy, functional tissue from an individual who cannot consent or protest.

by that logic, we might as well stop giving toddlers their immunizations because they sure as heck don't consent to being stuck with a giant needle.

male circumcision has benefits and parents have every right to circumsize their child.

How do you know it does, simply because the man can't feel it as much does not automatically imply that it is less sensitive to sexual pleasure. You must do a study to make sure. Many such things that seem obvious are disproved by studies.

Um, no way I'm subjecting them to pain of having it removed. What's the point?
