Well, as i listen to them right now, they're louder, and like a clickety clack sound that starts off, gets real loud, and louder, then subsides, and then the cycle starts again.....

crickets, well the "chirp" and sorta' peacefully.....they have a comforting sound to me....i grew up with that sound....

Ah, so that's the difference. there's also this sound on really hot days where it's like an orchestra of bugs cooling off.

@brinny - I think what I hear on those days is a concert of crickets and grasshoppers and perhaps other insects who cool off the same way. it's a really nice sound.

Maybe, but sometimes it's over a field and it may be too dry for frogs.

Aah, therein lies why i wouldn't know that.....

I live in a moderate town in Nebraska. We have cicadas in the summer. (They're the ones that sound like about 600 squealing fan belts, right?)
