Churches in Communion with Rome

Hey everyone,

Quick question. A friend of mine recently asked me some questions regarding the specifics of the Catholic Church, and I told her that it consists of many churches in communion with Rome. Is that correct and if so how many are in communion with her?

I believe that there's 21 different Eastern churches that are in communion with Rome. That number could be a little off though.

Does the Coptic Church/Alexandrian rite (re the link) Church being in communion with Rome indicate the healing of an ancient schism, or are there still multiple claims to that patriarchy?

There is a Syriac Orthodox Church across the street from our apartment. According to the list provided, it is in communion with Rome, but I wouldn't think it would retain the name "Orthodox" - plus I did some reading on that Church and they are under Patriarch's. Is their Patriarch under the authority of the Pope?

Maybe it is like the Alexandrian Church, which has a Coptic, Eastern Orthodox, and a Roman patriarch all claiming to be the rightfull apostolic succession from St Mark.
