• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Does anyone else have a problem with Christmas like I do . I love Christmas time but the thought of being around a lot of people and all the rushing causes me a lot of anxiety .

Anxiety to the point it makes me sick and even makes me home bound at times . I do all my Christmas shopping by e-mail so I don't have to go into the over stuffed with people stores .

There was a time when I love to be around a lot of people and the more stuffed with people the stores were the better and I loved all the crazyness that went with Christmas . But since I have had bipolar all that has changed . I wish it could be the way it use to be but I do not think it will happen . I have been bipolar for 7 years and still can not do Christmas like I use to .

Hello,

Well I know how that feels, I haven't really celebrated Christmas last year and not truly into it this year for personal reasons but I know you're not alone about going into stores and shopping a lot of people do order online due to it one saves time and two it's convent to sit at home and pray you get right sizes and such for family, friends or what not.. I used to send cards out, i debated on that this year, decided no,not right now. Maybe next year I can when things look up and a bit brighter on a personal level Anyway, just do what you feel is ok for you to do..As long as family and friends are understanding it should turn out ok. Happy Holidays :)

BleddesMommy05, I guess we are in the same boat . We can pray for each other . I am not sending out cards this year eaither , no Christmas tree or lights or dicorations . Just can't seem to find it this year . I am going to go through some of the motions like getting gifts , going to church Christmas play , dinner with the family but it just does not feel right at all . Well I pray that next year will be a better Christmas for us both .

Yes, I have the same problem. I am not even shopping this year. I can't afford it anyways. I can't stand being around a lot of people either. I wish it was January and Christmas is over. I have been sick to my stomach with worry about it all. I have bipolar as well, type II. I'm praying for you and remember you are not alone and Jesus is with you all the time.

RuthD, I am bipolar type one , Christmas must be hard for a lot of us with bipolar and the change of the weather does not help me eaither . I have to much time to set around and think because I can't work and I don't drive . I am with you I wish all of this would just be over so people will quit acting like it is a crime because I am not all into Christmas this year . Plus it does not help me to be around people that are all wraped up into Christmas because it sadens becaue I am not and much as I try I just can't .

Well I will keep you in my prayers becouse I know how you are feeling . I would tell you Merry Christmas but I know you don't feel that way and neaither do I . So I will just say I will keep you in my prayers .

For years christmas has been tough on me emotionally, I used to shut down emotionally and got really depressed. people would ask me what was wrong and I symply told them "I don't know". But now that I know that I'm bipolar at least I understand that its caused by my illness. Since I now have kids I get some joy out of seeing them happy. I have to work christmas night which also helps me take my mind off it somewhat. I will keep you all in my prayers.

romen33 , Christmas is emontionally hard on a lot of us with bipolar . My family will some of them has came to the point they just leave me alone when I am not in the mood for Christmas , I do just for them not because I want to go to the dinners and put on my fake happy face when I can . That is the best I can do . Each year it seem harder to get into Christmas , but to me people should be like they are at Christmas all year round so they are so fake once a year , not all people but most . I will keep you in my prayers to . At least you are blessed with your children and get happiness from them :)

Yes its been hard, but I try and take it a day a time... I have no family to truly spend it with ..Christmas that is.. My family are in Texas and so busy with their own agenda that it does not truly matter. Next year should go "better" but again I agree with you, we can pray for each other and those who are in same or similur situations.. Hope the holidays bring some comfort..

BlessedMommy05,
I am starting to feel a little bit better about the holidays . Then the family problems start . I have a sister in law that likes to drink to much , will way to much . It is such a long story but she has all ready put a damper on all the work I have done on getting in the holiday mood . Well I will keep moving forward because she is now in court ordered rehab so she will not be around to for the holidays to make it any worse. So I am going to do my best to make this Christmas a better one .

Good and I know how it with family's hard to put problems aside for the holidays and then deal with our own issues.. It's never easy.. I hope she finds the help she gets in court ordered rehab, that has to be hard, but again all we can do is pray for our love ones and that in itself hard to do depends on the relationship or dynamics I guess. I am glad you're doing better.. I had hoped to see some "family" but it does not look like this year but next year will I hope turn around and be better.. Good luck and glad that your're moving forward keep the baby steps :)

I have to work graveyard on Christmas Eve and day. My mom wants us to come over but I try to explain that I will be exhausted and need to sleep during day so asked her to come see me instead but it seems she can't understand my situation. I let her know 2 weeks ago about this but still she bought a full Xmas meal expecting me there. I'm so exhausted when I get off work I don't feel safe driving an hour away for fear of falling asleep at the wheel. Plus I need to sleep during the day so I can have enough strength to work at night. Also I have to take my meds when I get home and they make me drowsy. Please pray I can find the strength to go see her safely.:prayer:
