  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Here's a Christmas suggestion. I saw this about a year ago and I just checked and it's on American television again Friday night, December 17 at 8:00pm eastern time on one of the three major networks, i think NBC. (But I cannot recommend viewing it or any movie with commercial interruptions.)

Secret Santa (2003) (Made-for-TV)

Unexpected Absolutely Delightful Treat!

Each year at Christmas in the humble hamlet of Hamden, Indiana a Secret Santa anonymously gives a gift of great monetary and personal value to someone in need. Each year the `big city' Indianapolis newspaper runs a story but never until now did they send a reporter to cover the story up close and personal. This year Rebecca the fluff reporter, played by Jennie Garth, is sent by her Editor to get the job done. When she arrives she's eager to discover who is the man or woman behind the gift giving. The writing, directing and acting from start to finish is very good bringing out a nice amount of humor and is also able to touch the soul with deep emotion. Less than a half hour into Secret Santa I had some tears in my eyes and that continued with more touching moments now and again throughout. The cast is magnificently charming with Jennie Garth, Barbara Billingsley and Charlie Robinson shining bright. The story isn't preachy by any means, not terribly predictable and in fact is quite a nice little mystery up until near the very end. What's a shame about this, in a way, is that it will only be shown in December because it's a Christmas movie. Secret Santa should be shown at any time during the year because the message of selfless giving is one that everyone can benefit from not only at Christmastime. Including those that are Made-for-TV there are a LOT of Christmas movies. I haven't seen them all but I've seen a majority and automatically with just one viewing this has got to be one of my three or four very favorite. It's not the best movie ever made by any means but I would most definitely recommend it to anyone and everyone any month at all. This is a rare Christmas gem. My grade for this WONDERFUL movie: A!

(Sorry, this post has nothing to do with "The Box Office" because it never appeared in theaters but it is a movie.)

CHRISTMAS MOVIE ALERT

TONIGHT Monday, December 13, 2004 - 9:00 p.m. Eastern time
and
Tuesday, December 21 - 7:00 p.m. Eastern Time

on the Lifetime Channel here in the U.S.

The Christmas Child
Description: A Max Lucado Story. As Christmas draws near, Jack finds himself disconnecting from the holidays, his job, and ultimately his wife. His latest assignment as a journalist takes him to Dallas, but a mysterious photograph draws him to the town of Clearwater, Texas. It is here he discovers the town's life-sized, intricately carved nativity. As Jack delves into the mysteries surrounding the nativity and its creator, he uncovers secrets from his past, reunites with the family he never knew, and returns to the love that never left him. Closed-captioned, Color, NTSC. Approx. 96 minutes.

I cannot recommend watching a movie with commercial interruptions so record it and skip through 'em or maybe this is at your local video rental joint or it might make a nice early Christmas gift on DVD :) Christianbook.com has it for only $11.99!

(sorry, this has nothing to do with the "box office" since this never appeared in the theaters but it is a Christmas movie.)
