  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Share unique and interesting gift ideas.

In the mail today, I received something from Franciscan Missions, Inc which I thought was a really nice gift -- especially for Chrisitian friends and family. They offer 2 bottles of wild flower honey in a small wooden box for a donation of $20. The donation goes to help feed the poor, so your recipient gets something nice AND their present helps the poor. I thought this might be very nice for some on my list who are hard to buy for. Although I don't see the offering on the website, there is a phone number to call. The website is www.franciscanmissions.org if anyone else is interested.

I would be interested in hearing some faith-based ideas for teenage godchildren who are not very **in** to their faith.

We prepare spiritual boquets for everyone- and do them during Advent. We will then present teachers, grandparents, etc. with cards that tell them that we have offered Mass, and said the rosary for them, or made a Holy Hour, etc.

The kids make nice cards and really like actively praying for the people in their lives. I figure most everyone has too much stuff as it is.... We don't buy presents for anyone, except our children. We do invite everyone over for the holidays and cook and bake for them, though.

For my Godchildren I often will read a few stories onto a tape and send it along for listening to at bedtime or in the car.

I do like the idea of completely disposable gifts, such as food, though!

I try to make as much of my gifts myself. (and what I buy I start buying months in advance so it doesn't fall heavily on the budget). One of the things I like for this year is that I've bought four tiny jars (less than half a thumb in size). I'm going to fill them with mustardseeds that I've bought and write in gold on a label. "For days when you need to move a mountain".
Apart from that I'm going to embroider a few napkins, and I'm considdering making a journal jar.
