  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hey Guys

Was just reading a previous thread "Conversations/lack of" and it got me thinking about Christianity today particularly amongst teens/younger adults.
Whats everyone's opinion on faith in the 21st Century ?, I guess I'm a bit disillusioned with it all. I find that a good majority of people my age just give me a weird look if you even mention the word God or religion.

Have we become so immersed in this material world that we cant see the bigger picture.

Anyway I'd love to hear everyone's thoughts on the issue.

thanks in advance

It seems like everyones working for that next dollar, living for the newest cell phone and doing whatever they want. I think the main problem is tolerence "Oh...its okay for Jonny to do drugs, its not hurting anyone but himself" or "Oh, they are of age to have sex, its not hurting anyone"...When does it end? :prayer:

Ive been feeling like that for about the past 3 months...I try to stay happy but every time I look around at the world I just get sad again. I dont know how to feel about this place anymore. I find myself sitting in my room listening to the same song over and over again...I'm just a boy in the corner of the room, laughing to myself
A steel wall and a view that grows colder.
I close my eyes

It's strange isn't it, all these people on these boards full of love and praise. Yet when you go into the streets its gone? one cant help wander that a lot of us wanna open up to Jesus but are afraid too because the man sitting next to him might give him grief about it. Yet that same man sitting next to him is thinking the same thing :)

What a funny world we live in

aye, number of christians are declining.. in Australia, christianity is no longer the number 1 religion, instead, we have atheists becoming muslims and mormons.

so what exactly is the problem??? i think we christians have a lot to answer for.

I don't know that I am particularly surprised by the way things are--if anything, I'm rather surprised they aren't worse. After all, one of the foundational ideas of Christianity is that we're fallen, inherently sinful creatures (thus, we need God). The "world" is what it is: at war with God (and His people), and intent on all sorts of evil. And, this isn't a new thing--its been happening since the Adam and Eve got kicked out of Eden. In fact, much worse has occurred in the past to believers (and still does occur, in countries other than the US, now that I think about it). The key to maintain hope, I think, is to keep your focus on God, and not the world. The world will always ultimately disappoint and disillusion you--there is no hope to be found in it. But, God has overcome the world, right? And, this is only a place we need stay in temporarily. Whats 70 plus or minus a few years in light of eternity?

I know when I mention God in my social circle, I get strange looks. However, in general, I find people are most accepting, and willing to listen (at least where I live) after the initial shock of "HE'S A CHRISTIAN! HIDE!".

I think it's common, especially in modern society, to think that Christians wear tweed, have weird beards, carry about a Bible everywhere, and shove it in the face of anyone that walks past.

For one, I wouldn't be caught dead in tweed. I have style!

Beards are also not flattering to my facial shape.

Although, I do like to talk about God, and I feel people are generally willing to listen, so long as you don't throw it at them, and expect them to repent there and then. Give them an idea, then let God nurture it. He will.

God bless!

Since we are living in the end times, there is two things happening now. There is a strong false Antichrist Spirit arising around the world- and also "Fake" Christians falling out Paul called this the Apostasy, I believe. (I know I spelt that wrong...oh well.)

But Also I believe that there is a strong generation rising as well- with the TRUE faith rising. I mean, the young people of America, I think are LOOKING for answers. We need to show them.

And some people KNOW they are looking for answers they just don't understand what's wrong so... they attack Christianity.

I would expect Persecution to grow and grow and grow- this is our greatest hour, we need to be strong.

its interesting that this is brought up. for one of my classes, we are reading a book called virtual faith by tom beaudoin. in it, he discusses GenX (those born 1963-1979) religiosity and their combination of pop culture and traditional religion. things like the role of suffering, ambiguity, expeirence, and fear of institutional religion are discoussed. while he anaylzes fashion styles way too much (for example: "That mind-set would also explain why so many punk Xers ironically use safety pins in piercings. Because they frequently lacked safety in their childhoods (or even in adult society), a pin named safety--an artifact meant to avoid harming babies--becomes a social statement about harm, danger, and social effrontery." -p.78) some of his arguments do have a substantial basis.
