Christianity And Yoga ! What's Wrong About It ?

Yoga has nothing to do with Christianity or the Bible. It is predominantly a Hindu practice. Then why some Christians in America are trying this?When Israel went on backsliding they tried a lot of things like this. Isaiah says,” For You have forsaken Your people, the house of Jacob, Because they are filled with eastern ways; They are soothsayers like the Philistines” Isaiah;2:6 When God is about to leave a land or when He forsakes a people they will try to find some kind of alternatives. Because God will leave them to the hardness of their own hearts. “Woe to them when I depart from them!” Hosea;9:12 God will stay with a people or nation only as long as they choose to stay with Him. Mediums, astrology, soothsaying, palmistry, yoga. etc are pagan stuff. They have nothing to do with God or the Bible.All these kind of things have always been waiting to creep into a nation or people who forsake the Lord and His ways.Those who study the prophets can see that Israel was filled with these kind of things when they departed from God. "They have forsaken Me, the fountain of living waters, And hewn themselves cisterns--broken cisterns that can hold no water.” Jeremiah; 2:13
These are symptoms of of a backsliding people. It declares that the Lord is about to leave the land. As He did to Israel, when Baal’s power prevailed.Then Elijah said to the people. "How long will you falter between two opinions? If the Lord is God, follow Him; but if Baal, follow him." 1 Kings; 2:18 This is a time for America to make a choice like that. Before it is too late .Before, “Judgment springs up like hemlock in the furrows of the field.” Hosea; 10:4 as seen in Hosea What did God say when Israel turned away from God?"Woe to them, for they have fled from Me! Destruction to them, Because they have transgressed against Me! Though I redeemed them, Yet they have spoken lies against Me.” Hosea; 7:13
So "Do not learn the way of the Gentiles; Do not be dismayed at the signs of heaven, For the Gentiles are dismayed at them.” Jeremiah;10:2
“Why do you spend money for what is not bread, And your wages for what does not satisfy? Listen carefully to Me, and eat what is good, And let your soul delight itself in abundance. I do Yoga every morning. Immediantly afterwards, I pray the rosary, and read a chapter of the bible. I do not do yoga on Sundays, when I go to Church. What A Heathen I am!!

The physical aspect of Yoga is, I believe, acceptable for Christians. I think what most Anti-Yoga Christians disagree with, is the original philosophy/ideology that went along with the physical exercise, as it did not follow Christianity. Once you separate the physical aspect from the mental, it's fine. But, as always, ask God first. (He is the authority)

Are you the yoga police??
Just hold on.. yoga is a healthy part of peoples lives, christian and non. Yoga is good for the mind (spiritual/mediation) and body and Christians can use this exercise to gain spirtually enlightenment with God, not necessarily hindu gods. If this helps them gain a higher bonding to God, then good for them.
A christian looking after themselves and opening their minds up to an alternative way of getting healthy and connecting to God is NOT backsliding. How do you know what every christian is thinking when they are doing their yogo? your view of christians and yoga are too simplisitc and narrow.

I find that when I do yoga, I'm praying for God to help me get through it without dying... Man, lifting my own body weight into "downward dog" is not easy... I'm a big guy... So, I'm closer to God while doing yoga.

I've had some wonderful prayer experiences whilst in yoga practice- I can't see that it is a major problem. A yoga instructor worth having is usually accomodating to different belief systems. Hinduism isn't really a "religion" in the Western sense anyway, and the system in which yoga was formed was one where multiple religious views were and are embraced. IMO even most of the philosophy in yoga is okay for Christians, since it mirrors the teachings of Christ, but if it makes you uncomfortable, the physical aspects of yoga do not require following it.

Would the OP have a problem with taking karate lessons? What about playing soccer?
