Christian Tom Gates

My son loves Tom Gates, and I wondered if there was anything out there that was a Christian version. The only thing I came across was Diary Of A Disciple, which although incredibly well written and beautifully illustrated it wasn't really that similar. DOAD went through books in the Bible and told different peoples experiences but in a kiddy/funny way, rather than a kid experiencing life in a church. My son enjoyed DOAD too, but it got me thinking maybe I could write my own for him.

Anyway, to cut a long story short I did! He read the story and thought it was great. I passed it to a few other folk and they said I should get it published... so in the end I have. I wasn't going to get it published as it was just for my son, but enough folk said I should so I thought I didn't have a lot to lose!

Regarding publishing a book... If anyone goes down the route of publishing a book, then try createspace (an amazon company). It is a simple process (although there are a number of screens you have to go through and put in important details and the process of getting your book print ready can be tricky - especially if you have pictures in it!) and it's great seeing your book on amazon thinking that someone somewhere may enjoy it and it may help them in their christian walk.

Thank you. My soul aim was to encourage kids to investigate what it means to be a Christian. I only wrote it with my son in mind.
The worst bit of the whole process was checking it! I must have re-read it 10 - 20 times (along with other folk too) and I bet there are still errors in it!
Still, it was worth a shot, and it did open up some interesting conversations with my son, which is what it was designed for!

I e-published a Passover booklet called a Haggadah a few years ago. I did it thru Bookbaby [dot] com, a subsidiary of CD Baby.

I hear you about the edits and proof reading. It takes forever.

I've hear of CD baby before (and have got many CD's that way in the past). Didn't know they did a publishing service too (bookbaby). It's quite exciting getting your creative stuff published. I ordered one of my books and it arrived on Friday. The glossy cover looked great, and the finish was really good too.
