Rock music comes from a long line of rebellion and sinful innovators, any musician who is following the footpaths of these men is following after the world. Are they A Christian or not a Christian? That isn't my judgment to make, but no matter what the Bible gives enough evidence that Christian Rock artist are following the world and quit possibly are the Devils tool to keep us from getting close to God. Titus 2:12 says, "Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world"

When I open my Bible I read 1 John 2:15-16 “Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.” I hope all of the Bible translations clearly outline that we are to not love the world. Why? 1 Peter 1:16 sums it up when Peter writes, "Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy" I am sorry - Christian rock, rap, praise music, and soft rock is NOT holy. If it was holy then the WORLD would not want to listen. Does the world want to read the HOLY BIBLE?

When you are a Christian Rocker you are offering music that caters to the flesh, an image that caters to the flesh, and a overall ability to conform to current fads and standards to make your music appeal to the masses, or lets just say the flesh. When you sell millions of CDs and you have millions of people praising the music and ability you posses a little pride I am sure. Clearly, when I see marketing stratages that are designed to sell more and more CDs and sell more and more concerts that will apeal to Christains and the World I can't help but remember, "For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears"

I agree that Christian Rock music has words that mention God, or have a message that can bring a tear. But, when I hear that argument I remember clearly James 2:19, "Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble"

Fact is, I can make the clame very easily that people today do not want to be a sacrifice for God. We should scrifice our wants and desires becasue we read in Roman 12:1, "I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service." If we can't give up the modern musical trends that are a product of rebelion and sinfull inovation then maybe we are not fit for Gods commandment to be Holy. Like I said, I can clame very easily that people today do not want to be a sacrifice - they never want to give up TV, Christain Rock, and everything else that could be given up for the glory of God.

Now - you read all this and you say, "Dude, lighten up, it's just music and you just don't know the artist, the light they shine ...... "

Okay - well my Bible says, "It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God." in Hebrews 10:31. And when I read the Bible I see time and time again that rebelion and selfishness leads to Gods judgement.

Take a good look at Christian Rock. Take a look at the sinfull record labels pushing these "Christians" to sell sell sell. Take a good look at all the worldly men who profit for the money made. Take a good look at the image we see on the stage and in the pictures of our favorate artist and tell me it doesen't copy what the world inovates. Read each artist web site and tell me why the salvation message is hidden? Why are lyrics more fluff than truth? Fact is, more bad can be said about CCM than Good. In my humble opinion, if I see bad outweighing the good then maybe it isn't good. I have owned many 100's of CCM Cds, been to concerts, and I KNOW what is going on.

Also, where is the persecution in these artist lives? I see nothing but TOP 10 status and Grammys! Bible says in 2 Timothy 3:12, "Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution."

Don't take my word for it, take Gods. Pick up your Bible and say, "God, show me the truth about this subject." Read and pray - God will help you.

Now that I think about it. He's using the internet?! Egad, the horror! That requires electricity. That's unfortunate. Our electric suppliers are harmful to our environment. Even renewable sources are not void of harmful effects to the environment. Shall I quote scripture on how we're called to preserve God's environment and it's inhabitants he created?

Not to mention, I doubt the first electrical suppliers had God pleasing intentions when first using up the earth's resources (it's safe to say money and greed had an influence in the decision - hence the usage of fossil fuels such as coal, oil, etc). Yet, here we are. Using electricity.

Times change. It's an imperfect world in which we live. As Christians, we're called to spread the Gospel. At the same time, we live within the context of our ever changing society and environments. Feel free to continue reciting that we need to give up our Christian Rock. But it's a pointed argument that doesn't really cut to the crux of the matter. We're called to spread the good news of the Gospel. Music can be used to spread the Gospel (evidence you seem to be ignoring). As you say, "We should sacrifice our wants and desires." I'll be impressed if I hear you've given up your automobile, Natural Gas, Electricity, and anything else that's displeasing to God.

You bring up a good point when you mention the style of music David played. What was it? Is that the only "acceptable" form of music?

Electricity and music are two totally different things. One major difference is we don't have Christian Electricity, or Christian Cars on the market advertised to be "better" because it is "Christian." The world we live in is effected by sin, but Christians make choices on how best to live Holy for God in this world. Some choices are more simplistic than others.

I need to stop debating this since this isn't the time or place as many post have said. But, if anyone thinks that just because something says God or has God written on it that makes it Holy, they are wrong. If someone thinks David listed to music driven by the artist and their want to be "accepted" by the word, they are wrong.

It is time people wake up and realize that we need a great need for Christians following after Holiness. 1 Thessalonians 4:7 “For God hath not called us unto uncleanness, but unto holiness.”

One final thought. If music is used to spread the gospel, then why listen to it? You are already saved right? I doubt most of the lyrics found in your Christian Rock will save a mouse. Maybe we should use the Word of God! Or maybe let our life shine!

One purpose of music is that it is used to spread the gospel. But that isn't the only purpose.
Colossians 3:16-17 says "Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God. And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him."

So another purpose of music is to teach and encourage one another and also to worship.

Consider these lyrics from a rock band:
"You sit down
On your throne in heaven
And you look down
At the world You died to save from hell
So that we could be with You forever
Where there’ll be no dying
Will you use me
To tell them of Your love, Holy father
Draw them in by your Spirit

Eh, I don't know. I think this thread got hijacked quite some time ago unfortunately. LOL. I hear what you're saying, but I'll touch on a few points:

"Some points are more simplistic than others." Why should simplicity dictate whether we follow God's rules or instruction for how we live daily lives? You're stating Christian Rock is not holy and use Biblical passages to support that. I'm stating that we could use passages to support that using the earth's natural resources could be interpreted as against God's will. In either situation, one could argue we're not living a life pleasing to God and in accordance to His will. I think God would be disappointed if we told Him it was more simple to follow one versus the other.

I.e. where I'm going with this is, as stated before, times change. Society changes. Environments change. God can use us through those changes; including changes in styles of music.

I agree wholeheartedly. Stamping the word Christian on something does not make it holy.

There are far far too many passages that I can quote where God instructs us to make a joyful noise unto Him. We listen because we enjoy it. Because it can praise God. The music itself in no way has blessed me with the free gift of salvation through Christ. That comes from God alone. But it can be a tool to praise God and/or introduce others to Christ. I don't believe you've disputed the comments that confirm this music has helped lead others to Christ.

I look at this scripture and I understand how one could use it to encourage many things among the body of Christ. Unfortunately, when we look at denominations we see that everyone seems to have the ability to twist scripture to make things work for them. Sometimes genuinely, and other times selfishly.

I look and pull out "do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus" and once again I remind myself of another scripture that I already shared in 1 Thessalonians 4:7 “For God hath not called us unto uncleanness, but unto holiness.” and then I ask the question what is uncleanness? and then I go back once again to 1 John 2:15-16 “Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.”

And then I look at Christian Rock, Rap, and like music the Lord reveals that it is surrounded by pride, lust, and worldliness. It is so easy to write music that has all the right bells and whistles to be lyrically sound. Politicians always use the right words to get elected - all said and done, they are still people out with a mission to get elected into office and never really meant what they said. Even Christians say things to sound all important and like they are on top of things, but really they just hide the fact that they are miserable and confused about many many things.

I could quote you many songs from Christian Rock that would seen like they are apart of a holy thing. I can quote sermons from many popular fallen preachers. I can quote songs Johnny Cash wrote and say they are Holy. I can frankly write and say anything I want - I have power right now to do that. But, is is Holy? Genuine? Pleasing to God? or ... is is Worldly, a Delusion, or just hypocrisy?

Surely, man is abusing the world around us. We print Bibles and we print porn. We drive cars for recreation and we drive cars to serve the pore and hungry. Do I understand all and have answers for everything? No. But, I do know that oil is in the ground and God put it there. Just like everything - Good and bad can come from it.

My message is less Anti-CCM and more about opening your eyes and seeing that God wants Holiness! I loved Christian Rock, but when I read the Bible and understood what God wants from me all the sudden Christain Rock was sour in my ears.

I suggest getting to know some of these people personally. Judging someone you don't know based upon perception is wrong. It is sin.

Well, I agree, God put oil in the ground. Good and bad can come from it. Likewise, God created humans with gifts and abilities. One such gift is that of creating music. Good and bad can from it.

As I mentioned, I agree, stamping the word Christian does not necessarily make something holy. Likewise though, stamping the word Rock on something does not necessarily make it unholy.

You are right, I don't know these people personally .... but I do know people like them and that helps me understand the works I see. I understand also some of the decisions they make since I am a graphic artist and also write music .... I see the trends that are secular. I also see the decline in each CD in some cases in regards to image. One thing I can say I know about each artist is that most, if not all, don't have any spot on their web site to share salvation .... that is sad if you think about it. Let us not forget that most of these artist are all about uni-religion, Catholic hugging, come together and be united crap .... Third Day wrote a song about that ....... good beat, lousy lyrics. Funny, most CCM or Christian Rock I remember and like because of the music ....... should be the lyrics. I don't know these folks, but I do know that many youth look up to them, and the last I checked Christain youth are not following Biblical principles. You say, "How do you know that?" I say, well I know quite a few youth that are getting girls pregnant, or are pregnant, drinking, swearing, ignoring God, working hard for the world ..... sing Amazing Grace and you might get a tear, sing .................................. okay .... now I am rant'n and rage'n ...... tempted to delete it all, but then again maybe I should show you just how upset this makes me .....

You are also rebelling against the COC by derailing the thread, despite repeated correction. You posted in this thread for the sole purpose of derailing it. Since you agreed to the COC you agreed to its authority. You are a rebel, and by the standard which you judge you are worse than the musicians your criticize, since their "sin" is seeming rebellious, but yours is true rebellion.
