My favourite station (CHRI) has a killer dj but my biggest dislike is that he lives 3000 miles away from me and I miss him.

I would like to see some call in talk-shows on my fav. station. A little more lesser known and more out there Christian groups would be cool too.

Just wondering what are some of your likes and dislikes about your christian radio station.

Thanks

The problem with Christian radio, in general, is that there isn't a big enough market to separate the genres by station.

In KC, we have two (that I know of), one plays adult contemporary like Rebecca St James, Mercy Me, Michael W Smith, etc. A lot of times I can't listen to it because it puts me to sleep.

The other, an AM station, is geared toward a younger crowd, with more hard rock (which is what I prefer). But they also mix in the R&B and hip-hop style (of which 95% I can't stand). Their other problem is their music library is either miniscule or they WON'T play certain bands. I should probably call and find out which it is. But I would like to hear more of bands like Disciple, GS Megaphone, East West, Spoken, Skillet, etc.

The thing is, in order to grow the market, in my view, you need to have a station that someone can listen to continually and a) not hear the same thing over and over, b) not have your "style" of music interrupted by another "style" that you can't stand, c) be introduced to new artists on a regular basis, d) listen to non-dork DJ's who let the music do the work instead of glorifying themselves by babbling constantly.

I understand how hard this is in the Christian market. That's why I love it when Christian artists get secular airplay, and I love it even more when bands like POD who are popular in the mainstream get airplay on Christian stations. You're traveling or maybe just channel surfing and you hear POD so you stop. If the station is good, you might hear 3 or 4 Christian songs before you realize that it's a Christian station. WOW! You didn't know Christian music could actually be GOOD. This would be particularly useful for some of my brothers in the secular forum who don't listen to it because they think it's no good, when in reality, I hold to the belief that they haven't been exposed to enough of it.

Sorry for the rambling, but maybe that'll give you something to chew on a while.

i like how they do not have "commercials". My only thing that I don't like about my station is they play way too much Third Day, Newsboys, and Audio Adrenilane.
Too Much Third Day???!!!

Ours is listener supported so it's as commercial free as possible. The only thing I don't like is when they play songs that have me asking "What does this have to do with Jesus?" Or songs that are scripturally "off kilter". But truthfully I love the fact that it just exists.

This is all good stuff

Brett:

I heard ya brother, but until we become the mainstream your gonna here POD with Stacie Orrico. One trend I'm seeing is the "pop" stations are doing the same. Playing rock, dance, and hip-hop all in one shot. We try and be the "pop" station for Jesus.

Everyone:

Anything you'll like to hear that your not hereing already (Music, Contests, etc)

Thanks!

Keith

All I can say is be glad you have a Christian station that even plays Christ. rock and rap. We don't have one in Detroit. All I hear is Bebo Norman and other poppy stuff like Mercy Me, heck, they rarely play DC Talk. I am so sick of it....it's beyond words. I have tried to get the Christian rock station from Toledo in, but it won't come in. In addition this station has commercials every 3 or 4 minutes when they play music. I am so aggravated. Then, they have infomercials on sunday afternoon selling feminine products, like who gives a rip? They also have this growth hormone infomercial. They repeat these over and over again. I get so annoyed.
The only good thing is the Christian talk show in the afternoon, but that still isn't good music.
The only other remotely Christian music stations are gospel and I don't like it.
As a side note JC, I am heading to Quebec possibly this summer. Look forward to tuning you in! No Pressure. :)
I apologize for this rant, but this drives me nuts!

radiou.com, motor. Doesn't help you in the car, but good for at home.

Yeah, I am glad we have the rock station. I just wish they would play a wider variety of rock. It's hard to find good Christian music and it's hard to support something you can't find.

A good point was made about "The Passion...," if you want to see more stuff like it, you need to support it. The more Christian music you can get your hands on, the more that will be forthcoming.

We have 2 Christian music stations here in Atlanta, GA -- and I am thankful for that, because I know that many cities son't have any. However, my biggest complaint is that they both have short playlists -- they play the same songs over and over. I also have the same complaint that others have -- the market is not yet big enough to split the genre. I like heavy rock, but our stations don't play enough for my taste.

I have started listening to internet radio stations while I am at my desk at work. I mostly listen to Air1.com, Christian Rock Radio, and ChristianRock.net.

I think that it is important for believers to support the Christian music industry. Music has such a strong influence on people that the devil uses secular music very effectively. I no longer listen to secular music because the devil was really on me through the music. I don't think that everyone should stop listening to secular music, but we do need to offer more support to Christian music.

Just my 2 cents worth....

Be blessed! <><

Wow, that's horrible! I can't beleive Detriot doesn't have a station for ya. We're not much different, we're top 40 in the drive times, hot adult contemporay for the work day, and hard core top 40 at night.

FYI I'm on from 3pm-6:30 then again from 7-9:30pm :sorry:  :D turn me on when ya see the signs for Ottawa hehehehehehe

I would let your station know how you feel. Christian stations actually listen to what you have to say as most are listener funded.

The rock block is too popular, in fact if you tune in from 8-9:30 it's like a mini rock block every week night

thanks and love

One thing that bugs me is when the DJs talk, and talk, and talk, and talk--about the last song that was just played, giving a little mini-sermonette. Play the next song already!

Oh yeah, ours plays Amy Grant's El Shaddai and S.C. Chapman's God is God FAR too many times in a day!
