Pentecostal history covered by your church organization is not highly accurate even if it is Pentecostal. Most organizations are boasting of history of organizations. Charismata or gifts or tongues and baptism were know to happen before what is considered a movement. Groups such as Methodist in the past had stories of it even though they were not emphasising. At the time it was much different. You must realize that the current churches against charasmata are warring the current Pentecostal churches. The modern cessationist are emphasizing much more than ever that they are against tongues or gifts. When there was no Pentecostal movement. Those groups spent little time dwelling on that doctrine. It was something more to the effect before that a devout Methodist could be out in his barn praying ardently in the 1800's and begin to speak in tongues. It was not that his church would beat him with doctrine but it was believed it would never happen. It is comparable to saying today that you had a vision. Today even most Pentecostals would not believe that.
