It is worth it to be a Christian because of what it means for our past. We come from many different places, and the experiences of our past have been many, but there is one thing that is true about everyone of us, regardless of where we come from or what kind of life we may have lived or the advantages of a culture which may have come our way. There is one thing that is true in the past of everyone of us. That is the truth that all men regardless of who they are, are sinners. Romans 3:23 says,"that all have sinned and come short of the glory of God." The Bible says,"that the problem of sin is a problem that is common to every one of us today As we look to our past there are things there that we wish were not there. We may have been good persons, and we may have been better than some other people. Yes! all of us, if we were honest with ourselves and with God. There is of course the guilt of sin. There are many who are plagued with the problem of guilt. They live day by day in anxiety and uneasiness and restlessness, because of their guilt in their life due to the problem of sin. Also in the past is the condemnation of sin. The Bible says, he that believes not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God (John 3:18) The greatest truth to me in the Bible is the truth that God is love. If you never learn anything else about God, you have to learn that God is love. The Bible says, God is God of love, it also says God is a God of holiness, and that God is a just God. Even though God is love he must punish sin. Jesus came into this world to deal with your past. Jesus came to make it possible for your sins to be forgiven for your slate to be wiped clean and to have forgivness and peace and fulfilment in your life.
The burden of sin is lifted off when we come to Christ. The Bible declares that he becomes our sin bearer. When you come to Christ and repent of your sins and by faith you recieve what Jesus did for you, the burden of your sin is carried away. The joy of knowing today that Christ has dealt with the problems of our past is enough to make it worth it to be a Christian.
