Sometimes I watch shows just to see what the world is thinking about. My fear is that the facsination with vampires is that people would be one if they could.

I read The Vampire LeStrat because my brother read it and wanted me to. I thought it was very dark.

It is a difficult question. We are to live in the world, not a part of it, but I am not sure were watching a movie lies. Know thy enemy you know?

I use to really love it...but have lost interest in it...depends on your convictions..if you can watch it as entertainment purposed why not? if it takes away from your bible reading, praying, witnessing, maybe not ....

Thank you

I called myself a devout Christian. But that is a misleading. I want to be a devout Christian. But I question my salvation.

why do you question it? we fail him daily..there is always more we could be doing for Him...but that is a good thinking too, I guess..keep us humble...

have you accepted Christ and been baptized? I only ask b/c there are many who feel they can sit on a church pew and take up and office in church and be a devout Christian? you can message me if you don't want it all public forum

A general rule of thumb that holds true in a lot of contexts is that if you're questioning whether or not something is right, it either probably isn't or, at the very least, deserves to be scrutinised.

I don't really know the show you're talking about but I would give warning against a lot of secular TV series. I fell in to that trap myself and found myself becoming desensitised to certain things that absolutely weren't okay and Biblically acceptable.

I'd discuss it with your Pastor and go from there :)

If you don't have a Pastor because you don't go to church or aren't able to for whatever reason, contact this ministry(it's the online ministry of a well-known, Godly Pastor) and someone there will get back to you. It may not be the fastest reply in the world but they really are grounded in the truth and will serve you well :)

Also to add(I was going to edit but it may be a long post and end up overlooked)... I remember hearing a sermon by a great preacher once on a similar matter.

He likened our mind to a pipe. If water passes through a rusty pipe, the water is going to be affected by it. If we contaminate our mind with things that aren't pleasing to God, we're in trouble because everything we see, do or hear is processed by the mind.

When we read Scripture, the mind processes it. When we praise God, the mind processes it. When we pray, the mind processes it. When we're around others, our mind processes their words and actions.

In short, the mind is incredibly important because it's the mode of transport for almost everything we do. We should do all we can to preserve it from perversion and other things that can detract from our ambition to serve and glorify God as He should be served and glorified.

Yes I have accepted Christ as my Lord and Savior. But I still sin.

I have some besetting sins.

I was also baptized.

That is something I probably should hear.

... Should a devout Christian watch the show?
Whether it is OK with God for a mentally competent adult to watch <insert anything> is, generally speaking, only something the person and God can know. Any given thing affects people differently. God has purified the hearts and minds, and empowered, people in surprising ways so that they might minister to others.

The man who eats everything must not look down on him who does not, and the man who does not eat everything must not condemn the man who does, for God has accepted him. Who are you to judge someone else’s servant? To his own master he stands or falls. And he will stand, for the Lord is able to make him stand. (Romans 14:3-4, 1984 NIV)

So, a good question is, is it unwise for the average Christian watch <insert anything>? But it is well worth keeping the distinction in mind between a general sort of examination vs. examining it for a specific individual. One cannot automatically apply a conclusion from the general examination to an individual.

Whether one should act to help a specific friend (e.g., to stop watching a TV show) depends on many things, including their relationship, the friend's history, and the friend's relationship with God. Also one should examine his own attitude: normally if one's attitude is judgmental, he should keep silent. Even if one is correct in his thinking, how he communicates it may be harmful. If one is reacting emotionally, it is a signal that his feeling is, in part, from judgmentalism or of their own lack of faith in God. The person will eventually have to answer to God, not us. If one has an attitude of "I know the truth and you're screwing up" rather than "we're both screwed up compared to our Judge" (see Matthew 7:1-6) it probably is result of sinfully judging someone (which often is rooted in being judgmental about ourselves)—see 1 Corinthians 4:3-4+.

If one cannot help the other with love in his heart for the person, he probably shouldn't act. God wants the friend to live wisely and perhaps we can help, but he also wants us to act wisely, respect one another, respect the fact that God gave them a free will, and trust that it is God who will lead the person to what is good for them if that's what they want. Always speak from an attitude of humility, gentleness, patience, and love, otherwise perhaps you should be working on the plank in your own eye.

Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love. (Ephesians 4:2, 1984 NIV)

Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus: Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, but made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself and became obedient to death—even death on a cross! (bold mine, Philippians 2:5-8, 1984 NIV)

Finally, all of you, live in harmony with one another; be sympathetic, love as brothers, be compassionate and humble. (1 Peter 3:8, 1984 NIV)
