  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

A man and a woman with a toddler are sitting on a bench in a park. A stone comes out of nowhere and strikes the woman in the head knocking her unconscious. Her toddler wanders toward a pond in the park, he falls in and starts to drown. The man sitting one the bench sees him and does nothing. The child dies and the mother wakes up.

Is this a moral man?

It's one of several ways to start a discussion on the Problem of Evil.

If someone states that they believe that the man's action were not moral, then it brings up the question of why God, essentially being in the same position, would not stop the incident, and as such whether or not said God is fully good or truely omnipotent. *debate begins here*
But it's past midnight and I'm too tired.

You'd probably get a better response in some of the other forums, this one doesn't get much traffic.

I'd say no, he's not a good man.

Next question: if a teenager impregnates 5 girls, get stoned and drunk at a party then runs over 2 homeless people and an elderly person while chewing tobacco...is he a socially responsible individual?

It’s a false and preposterous condition that God is “essentially in the same position” as a man. If anyone can demonstrate that “The God” and “a man” are the same thing, with the same responsibilities, same knowledge, wisdom, omniscience and plan, then and only then could that debate start.

get the toddler, mon, in meantime have someone cal 911 to get help on the way for the woman...

you see how the toddler faces sure death...the woman is unconscious but is most likely breathing.....

the man is a dolt and needs his keyster kicked

I'd say so. Okay he killed 3 people, but two of them were tramps and the other was on his last legs anyway, and when you balance it up against the 5 new lives he has created, you'd have to say it was a pretty successful night out all in all.

Maybe the man was paralized, would that make a difference?

And since the OP was posted in this section I'm responding even though I lack the desired icon :)

if he's paralyzed he's not held responsible......he's helpless to do anything...
