  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Does anyone know of any good Christian rock? I have tried to refrain from listening to secular music lately, not that I think it is evil or anything like that but because I find myself falling back into old thinking patterns sometimes. I wonder if anyone can suggest any good Christian Rock? I like Jennifer Knapp alot but I need more variety.

My favorite Christian band (actually the only one I listen to) is called Burlap to Cashmere. They're really really musically talented, and full of energy! I have one CD of theirs, called "Anybody Out There?" Its amazing. The guitarist, whoever he is, is just ridiculous, and the lead vocals are awesome.

Here is a view I found of that CD:
The songs included on Anybody Out There? cover a stylistic range from modern pop to Mediterranean stomp with some element of the one inevitably thrown into the other. Exploring a diversity of subjects including love, war, salvation, divorce, the struggle of flesh against spirit, and the death of friends, Burlap seeks to chronicle the emotions of life, without ever opting for easy answers. Instead they show a willingness to walk every step of life's journey with deliberation, rejoicing when it is the time to rejoice, and mourning when it is the season to mourn.

Maybe I can try and send you some songs via IM?

I avoid secular music for the same reasons, Christy! There are a bunch of Christian artists whose music I dig. I'll also list a song by them to give you a flavor...

DC Talk - My Will
Audio Adrenaline - Ocean Floor
Chris Tomlin - Famous One
Relient K - Getting Into You
Ten Shekel Shirt - Ocean
Delirious - Everything
Rebecca St. James - I Thank You
Mark Schultz - He is My Son
Nichole Nordeman - To Know You
Ginny Owens - Free
Sixpence None the Richer - Brighten my Heart

I could burn you a mixed CD, if you'd like. You can pm me if you'd like me to...

I have "Famous One" by Chris Tomlin, and I love it. I have heard of some of the others but never heard their stuff. Maybe you could zip them up in a file and send them or something? I would love to hear them, I have DSL so I think it could be done fairly quick.

Oh and one more thing, Tribe, do you like jennifer Knapp? Has anyone heard of her even? LOL
Yeah, I do know of her and like her music. I hear it quite a bit on our local Christian station, but don't have any of her stuff.

I've only got dialup, but I can try Zipping a bunch of these songs and posting them on my website for you to download, if that'll work for you. I'll still probably have to let the upload run overnight, though.

Yolanda Adams "The Battle is the Lord's"

CeCe Winans "Alabaster Box"... <Good one.. It reminds me of me..

Have you heard any of the WOW Worship CDs? They are awesome and you can buy them online, at bookstores, and music stores. I love contemporary Christian music and the WOW CDs contain songs from a variety of artists. One of my favorite songs is "In Christ Alone" by Adrienne Liesching and Geoff Moore. These are the words:

In Christ alone my hope is found
He is my light, my strength, my song
This Cornerstone, this Solid Ground
Firm through the fiercest drought and storm
What heights of love, what depths of peace
When fears are stilled, when strivings cease
My Comforter, my All in All
Here in the love of Christ I stand
In Christ alone who took on flesh
Fullness of God in helpless babe
This gift of love and righteousness
Scorned by the ones He came to save
Till on that cross as Jesus died
The wrath of God was satisfied
For every sin on Him was laid
Here in the death of Christ I live
There in the ground His body lay
Light of the world by darkness slain
Then bursting forth in glorious day
Up from the grave He arose again
And as He stands in victory
Sin's curse has lost its grip on me
For I am His and He is mine
Bought with the precious Blood of Christ
No guilt in life, no fear in death
This is the power of Christ in me
From life's first cry to final breath
Jesus commands my destiny
No power of hell, no scheme of man
Can ever pluck me from His hand
Till He returns or calls me home
Here in the power of Christ I stand

I think that is just beautiful!
This song is from the WOW Worship (Yellow) but it can also be found on the CD "Secrets of the Vine: Music . . . a Worship Experience."

Hope this helps a bit. :)

Your sister in Christ,
Allison

And here are the lyrics to my absolute favorite Jennifer Knapp song...I wish I could figure out a way to upload this song to a web page and let you guys download it or something. I don't know how though :(

Read all the lyrics it's a great song, especially the part about Peter...

Undo Me

Papa I think I messed up again
Was it something I did?
Was it something I said?
I don't mean to do you wrong
It's just this way of human nature!

Sister I know I let you down.
I can tell by the fact you're never comin around.
You don't have to say a thing..
I can tell by your eyes exactly what you mean.

That it's time to get down on my knees and pray.
Lord undo me
Put away my flesh and bone
Til you own this spirit through me.
Lord undo me.

Mama I know I made you cry
But I never meant to hurt you
No I never meant to lie.
While the world shook it's head in shame
I let you take the blame.

Brother I know you labored so hard to please (yeah yeah yeah)
But I cut you down and I left you on your knees
Well I know it must be

Time To get down on my knees and pray.
Lord undo me
Put away my flesh and bone
Til you own this spirit through me.
Lord.....

I am wanting, needing, guilty & greedy.
Unrighteous, unholy undo me undo me.

Abba father you must wonder why
More times than Peter I have denied.
Three nails and a cross to prove
I owe my Life eternally to you!

Well its time to get down on my knees and pray.
Lord undo me
Put away my flesh and bone
Til you own this spirit through me.
Lord undo me.

I know that you specifically said Christian rock, but if you like classical music, there are any number of Masses that you can buy (i.e. Bach's Mass in D, Beethoven's Missa Solemnis, Mozart's Requiem). It's hard to make music more Christian (Catholic I guess) than just setting the text of the Mass to music.
