Please come here and discuss and share about the wonderful band Evanescence.

I just went to the Seattle Bumbershoot festival last night 8/31 and heard the band Evanescence. It was fantastic. Amy's voice is so beautiful and rich, and the music so powerful and moving.

After the band I did a little evangelizing, and passed out a trifold pamphlet that I made that addressed the lyrics expressing the need for personal fulfillment and deliverence, and gave a pretty complete gospel account in it. I thought the decision to make the trifold and evangelize after the concert was definitely God inspired.

The crowd attending were very interesting people, ranging in age from about 12-40, mostly around 18. There were goths, marilyn-manson enthusiasts, witches (one told me she was), several seemingly lesbian couples, rockers, at least one skin head (he commented after he received my trifold,"cool. White Power!" Which I don't endorse, of course), a few bikers, moms and daughters, dads and kids, and lots of new agey, and wicca types. It felt great to evangelize to such a cross-section. They impressed me as a thoughful bunch, with lots of depth. Several youth talk to me about the trifold gospel tract, and asked great questions. I passed out 380 trifolds. I wish I could have covered more than one exit. Several people asked for 2 or three more. One young lady took one, scanned it, kinda snarled and tore in half right in front of me, and stomped away. I couldn't help it and called out to her, "You just don't understand!" About ten minutes later she came back and asked for another one! That had to be a move of God.

Anyway, please join me in expressing your love for the band Evanescence.

Some of the members are Christians, but they do not claim to be a Christian band. I think its great that you were able to do some evangalizing, a lot of the songs seem like they are about suicide, and about not believing in God. I haven't really made up my mind. I do like them though, wonderful music. :)

Amy and Ben are Christians, however they say they are not a Christian band. In the Fallen album credit comments Ben thanks Jesus for all that's inside of him. But Ben has said a few words which got them banned from Chrisitan bookstores. However, I think they may be cleverly distancing themselves from the title "Christian" because it will basically turn off a lot of their listening audience. In a way they may be trying to be all things to all people in order to have the audience they have, you know, goths, metalheads, etc.

Their music and lyrics are about the heavy things goths, and even people like me have thought and felt. They are singing about deep pain, deliverance and redemption, and about getting free. So we should take the opportunity to lead their audience to Christ, if we can get them to trust us as wanting their highest good.

...check out their article in "Blender" magazine, the one that had Jewel on the cover....anyways, metalhead and goth shouldnt be in the same sentence with Evanescence, well, only if poser was included......they're just another nu-metal band tyring to pass as goth, but at least the're not trying to do the rap/metal thing......is great you got to give out those tracts, though...anyways, the only thing positive i have to say about Evanescence's music is...um...well, they play their video in VH1, thats good right?......poser goth has gone pop just like marylin manson...

I respect your evaluation. It sounds honest and accurate.

However, they are popular, and bunch of kids in their teens have the same sentimental feelings that the lyrics portray. If such a large body of listeners find their music meaningful, it is something that God can use to meet them where they live, so to speak. I can remember having a lot of those trapped, and suicidal feelings as a teen. Getting those feelings out and articulated into questions is half way to getting the real answers. And if the lyrics cause them to start think of God a possible savior, wow.

They are saying "wake me up inside", "bring me to life", if christianity can't respond to that, satan or the goddess earth mother, or whatever will.

And even more poignant than that, most Christians are asleep or half dead, and they could well ask "wake me up inside."

I know, and don't just think or believe, that it is possible to be filled to overflowing with the Holy Spirit to such a level and intensity that it is undeniably God. I think almost everybody's missing that kind of presence. However, I have been to several christian churches that the best they can muster is a mild buzz like glow of God's presence. I believe that a whole bunch of young people, who are searching for spiritual answers to the emptiness inside, could accept Jesus in such a way that they will blow away the older generations in their level of devotion and reward of annointing that God will use in the most powerful show of his Presence the world will ever see in people. I really see this generation of kids as really craving a Spiritual connection to the real God, unlike ever in my life (which goes back to the beginning of rock and roll, and the hippie Jesus movement)

'Nough said from me.

Anybody else really like Evanescence?

...i have to agree with what you said there..i never questioned that God might use them like you said in that last post...i do think the lyrics to "bring me to life" are really positive, even more when compared to the garbage thats out there......all my comments were just about the music, they had nothing to do with their faith or anything like that......personally, i dont like discussing the faith of certain band, or if they're christian or not because thats between them and God......i think the lyrics most of the time give it away, or how the band presents itself......anyways, praise God if this music makes them come closer to him, i cannot argue that...but its just my personal taste, i just cant listen to their music, it all sounds like a big nu-metal blur to me...anyhoo, thats my input...

From what I have heard in passing, I really like their music and the lyrics are out of this world!

I am not trying to be negative or trying to turn this thread against them by any means at all! I am wondering, however, about them spiritually. I heard (again, not trying to gossip. from what I understand this is a well known thing.) that they were on some show and one member was asked what he thinks of the fact that their music is being played on christian stations and he replied, "what the "f" is our music on those stations for?!" I have heard that several places and I am honestly wondering if you guys know anything about this. If these guys are on the straight up and doing good spiritually, I would love to start listening to them!

Although I am not a fan of Evanescence (a little too bland for my taste), I will say that wether or not they said "what the f..." it wouldn't really matter to me since if I listen to a band, I pay more attention to what they are saying in thier lyrics and less to what they do in thier daily lives. afterall, can any of say that we have not spoken wrongly in the wrong situation and caused turmoil in some way? No one is perfect and while they may be regarded as role models for young people, we need to understand that when it comes down to it, it's just music and they are only human.

What is the song "Wisper" about?
Catch me as I fall
Say you're here and it's all over now
Speaking to the atmosphere
No one's here and I fall into myself
This truth drives me
Into madness
I know I can stop the pain if I will it all away
Don't turn away
(Don't give in to the pain)
Don't try to hide
(Though they're screaming your name)
Don't close your eyes(God knows what lies behind them)
Don't turn out the light
(Never sleep, never die)
I'm frightened by what I see
But somehow I know that there's much mroe to come
Immobilized by my fear
And soon to be blinded by tears
I know I can stop the pain if I will it all away
Don't turn away
(Don't give in to the pain)
Don't try to hide
(Though they're screaming your name)
Don't close your eyes
(God knows what lies behind them)
Don't turn out the light
(Never sleep, never die)
Fallen angels at my feet
Whispered voices in my ear
Death before my eyes
Lying next to me, I fear
She beckons me, shall I give in
Upon my end, shall I begin
Forsaking all I've fallen for
I rise to meet the end
Don't turn away
(Don't give in to the pain)
Don't try to hide
(Though they're screaming your name)
Don't close your eyes
(God knows what lies behind them)
Don't turn out the light
(Never sleep, never die)
:help:

I dunno, to me it seems like the lyrics are about fighting suicidal feelings.

I like them, but, they also can encourage depressing feelings. They were really hitting a peek when i was going thru my marriage breakup and so much of it seems to be about broken relationships and pain involved. Which in a way can be theraputic and help you express your pain.

I like some of the stuff from before fallen, like forgive me, and solitude.

Bring me to life is an awesome song tho' depending on your point of view it can be spiritual or about love
