I'm not sure what you mean by D.I.Y. in the musical sense. I know it was a popular aesthetic with old-school punk rockers, and I know that there's a d.i.y. electronic music movement (homemade synthesizers, circuit-bending musical toys, etc.) but beyond that I don't really know... Perhaps if you elaborated a bit more we could be of more help.
