Most of what is written about Christian nationalism is silly. Critics and analysts sweepingly deride conventional Christian conservatives as Christian nationalists. By some counts, there are, by this definition, tens of millions of Christian nationalists. Sometimes even civil religion, with its homage to a vague deity, is labeled Christian nationalism. If so, all presidents from George Washington to Joe Biden are Christian nationalists.

Sometimes the target of these critics of Christian nationalism is folk religionists who conflate God and country. They sometimes sport paraphernalia with American flags draped around the cross. These folk religionists typically aren’t aware they are Christian nationalists. They don’t publish articles, much less books. And they typically don’t have articulated policy agendas, just an attitude that God and country should be interchangeably honored.

People seem to have a real attachment to the word “fascism”.
Anything we perceive as bothering us or challenging our freedom. Like those fascist nuns when I was in elementary school.

"We need to participate for the common good. Sometimes we hear: a good Catholic is not interested in politics. This is not true: good Catholics immerse themselves in politics by offering the best of themselves so that the leader can govern."

-Pope Francis, Morning Meditation

Regardless of who likes it or not, we have a role to play.

Britannica Dictionary definition of FASCISM. [noncount] 1. or Fascism : a way of organizing a society in which a government ruled by a dictator controls the lives of the people and in which people are not allowed to disagree with the government.

Looks around for anything represents fascism here…*squints*

It’s a much misused word. Few know what it even means.

When you're looking at political philosophies, a dictionary definition doesn't really do it justice because it has to simplify a more broad term into like one or two sentences.. Fascism has to be understood historically and has a lot more facets than just this definition.

Wikipedia is a decent starting place, which defines it as "Fascism (/ˈfæʃɪzəm/ FASH-iz-əm) is a far-right, authoritarian, and ultranationalist political ideology and movement, characterized by a dictatorial leader, centralized autocracy, militarism, forcible suppression of opposition, belief in a natural social hierarchy, subordination of individual interests for the perceived good of the nation or race, and strong regimentation of society and the economy. Opposed to anarchism, democracy, pluralism, egalitarianism, liberalism, socialism, and Marxism, fascism is at the far right of the traditional left–right spectrum."

Wikipedia? I don’t trust it as far as I can throw it.

America has kind of always been a Christian Nationalist model, even the early pilgrims thought of the new continent as place to build a city on a hill.

This became an issue when university students started speaking about colonialism and it's modern day fruit as "the problem"

The pilgrims were certainly religious and wanted Christian nationalism. The founding fathers, however, expressly rejected the idea.

This illustrates how this element has always been there in America.

That element is and has been in every nation all over the world. It’s not unique to America or Christianity.

Christofascism", a neologism which was coined in 1970

"Chris Hedges and David Neiwert contend that the origins of American Christofascism date back to the Great Depression, when Americans first espoused forms of fascism that were "explicitly 'Christian' in nature"
If far right people are called "fascists" is there a word for far left people?

No! I'm not calling anyone a fascist, just wondering about the terminology, is all.

Were those nuns far right? I'm sure they wore beautiful habits back then. ;)

The right wing party in Canada is equivalent to the Democratic party in terms of its (right-left) position .. However, republicans tend to see the Democrats as communists. This illustrates facism probably is present moreso in America.

odds are however, that both parties are just name calling. Commie, Fascist ... it's all the same.
Well here in America, things seems to be turning a corner. There seems to be more willingness to work together on both sides. Media are pretty much exposed with what they have been doing and are paying for it now. People need to let go of their partisan hatred and truly try to work for the good of the country. Not their biases and obsessions with what they have soaked up from ideologies and narratives. The chicken littles need to just take a wait and see attitude and calm down.
