If school systems kow-towed to every group that didn't like a few particular books, the libraries would soon be empty. Not that long ago, schools were culling out copies of "Huckleberry Finn" on the basis that it was supposedly racist.

However, when parents object to books (of questionable literary value) that are placed in school libraries solely to push some politically correct agenda, they're very often pictured as vigilante head cases.

My daughter's school voted last year to "dispense" with several books. All of them, had at least "moral" themes if not outright religious overtones. Not the least of which was, and I could not believe it "A biography of Joan of Arc"....now really, I cannot understand what is so objectionable about Joan of Arc?????

They believe that Christian books are not politically correct!

Yet they will tolerate pro-Islamic books -- go figure!

chanter: I completely agree!!! Joan of Arc was an admirable young woman no matter the reader's religious disposition!!! As a former Protestant, and I was a Baptist at the time, I sent my "strongly worded letter" to the school board, and told them where I thought their priorities were...in the gutter...at the same time, they approved various lists of new additions to the school library, to include the "works" (uh-huh!) of Judy Blume, that infamous writer who exposes children prematurely to sexual themes...Got it! I understand now! Religious visions are unacceptable to the school board, but premature "sexual revelation" is apparently, perfectly okay...if I did not own my own business, and have to be gone so much of the day, and if I could afford private schooling, my daughter would be homeschooled, or in an RC (at least) private school lickety split...

from the article said:
Among the books the Crusaders for Christ want banned are "Of Mice and Men" by John Steinbeck, "The Martian Chronicles" by Ray Bradbury and "To Kill a Mockingbird" by Harper Lee.

"To Kill a Mockinbird"! They want to ban this book, a book that sends a very strong message against bigotry and racism?! ??? They remind me of another group of "crusaders" who attacked the very thing they were supposed to be defending

Of Mice and Men was one of the First novelas that I really liked, how dare they.
