  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I was wondering how people feel about Christian artists and the pressure they have to conform to the images that the secular media/our culture sets the standard for. I am asking because my daughter is a CCM artist who doesn't fit the mold and is still finding success. Her name is Katie Giguere. (put her name in any search engine to learn more about her) She ministers to people about a Godly sense of self, body image and measuring our worth through the eyes of Christ rather than through our culture. I'm interested to hear people's take on this subject. I know when she's out there singing, she get's a strong reaction about this subject, especially from women. I wonder if it's an issue that is addressed very much in Christianity.

I think Christian music artist have to face the same thing everyday Christians have to face, it's just more applified becuz they're in the spotlight. I do respect ones who will strongly stand for their Christian based morals. There's alot of other Christian bands who just want hide, basically, and don't want to be in the spotlight ...which I could also understand, yet that's not actually do-able.

I think everybody has someone else watching, influencing, and/or judging them whether good or bad. It's sad that ppl who stand for something [like Christians do] seem to get pushed around a whole lot more than ppl who don't care why they do anything or just don't care about anything. But then again that's just another chance to prove yourself and what you believe. It's a tough fight to have to endure annoyances like that, but it's also a worthwhile thing. For Christian artist I think it just makes them all the more respectable when they constantly take a stand for what they believe.

A lot of people think it is wrong for a Christian band to go mainstream. But i think that is like telling Rick Warren that he is anti-God now because his book made it to the best seller list. U2, Pillar, P.O.D., Blindside all went mainstream, they still love God. Going mainstream reaches out to more non-Christians. I bought a dvd that had a live video of the Christian band Norma Jean on it. My mom thought it was "not music", but it is impacting kids for Christ. This is my little rant about nothing but ya.......

are we talking about christian intertainment? as much as i hate that term, its a reality. go to any christian book store, look at the cds and see what I mean. in the secular music industry, you wont make it without the good looks, this is less true in the christian music industry. focus on serving God, not getting signed to a label
