Are those links correct? Their the same...

Anyway, I'm not sure what to suggest. Can you release any info about the game at this point? Possibly even screenshots? Is it text based or graphical? Are you programming sockets tcp/ip or is it a stand alone? Are you building a game world or is it a linear rpg?

I'm building one too so I'm interested in hearing some or any detail about your project. Mine is written in C++ and uses an Object Oriented data base, it's a non-linear game world that multiple users can connect and interact over the Internet. It's a Spiritual Warfare game where you battle foes with the word of God, prayer and the full armor of God. Yeah pretty much a hack and slash, but I hope to have some features like housing and fishing at some point. Of course as the players character gains exp and aquires better equipment they will be able to take on bigger trials (i.e. defeat demon lords from the pits of hell).

This phase is text based but possibly I'll move to a graphical 3D world resembling something like EverQuest (I said like! general genre) if this project design develops some interest among the Christian gaming community. If I do go graphical, I hope to recruit a team to use the Crystal Space engine for the game. But with what I'm working on now it may be six month before I give out my games location which is currently running on a server right now. World development will take allot of time since this phase of the project is done by me alone. A good deal of my inspiration for the world building is from the book Pilgrims Progress but not directly related.

So I'd like to hear something about your game. Maybe we could give you some suggestions that would fit into the games design.

Well that sounds great. I'm working on a little game mself, mainly for my kids. I'm using Game Maker. I have no time to learn prorgamming and its so easy. Well sort of. It's iggly the Bible smuggler.

Anyway, my advice would be to make sure your game has good gameplay. Graphics are secondary.

Yeah, I fully agree with that. There are so few Christian games out there that I'd be happy with low level graphics if it had real content. I put content first, myself, by far.

Programming... yeah that's a big reason I'm into this project. I spent time with C and really want to learn C++ as a hobbyist. Well I learnt basic and then some assembly but that was years ago. I went to College as a Computer Science major for C but found I didn't want to do that 40+ hours a week as a career. I do like to program though, but on my own time doing my own thing. There is more to it though, than just programming, like level design, sound design, music, network administration and so much more. A small project could easily add up to an army of people producing an type of game. The hardest thing to build is the engine, but there are good ones to choose from out there all ready to go... or close to it. Yes, like game maker that you can buy in a kit. There are some out there that need no programming experience to work with and there are others on the other side of the scale.

Im sorry if you previously posted..but what engine you using?
Are you asking about the Christ Crucified rpg engine? Yeah I'd love to know too. I'm guessing he is writing it from scratch but maybe not with so many pre-written engines out there now to choose from.

If you are asking me as well, originally I started with the ROM engine which is based on C. Most of my ideas were designed around that engine. I like the Crystal Space engine in a big way so I decided to go with a C++ based engine so that I may one day move to the graphical Crystal Space engine http://crystal.sourceforge.net/ with some C++ MMO development experience since CS is based on C++. CS is still in beta so I feel I have time to work on another project for now (prequel?). There are some great looking graphical games being developed with CS and you can find them in a listing at the CS project site. At this point I'm using AIME http://aime.sourceforge.net/ which is also still under development but pretty stable. Though it has no graphics, it will let me continue my development of a biblical Spiritual Warfare system that I can possibly carry to later projects.

I'm going with these pre-made engines since it can take years to develop one, and since I'm a hobbyist I like the fact that I can use one of these engines for such projects. Just the cost factor alone is very appealing. If a game made with CS happens, there will be no overhead development cost from developing an engine from scratch. Yes it will take alot of development time by a team of volunteer hobbyists to get a good Christian based mmorpg running with an engine like CS, but with little or no cost to develop, all player accounts could quite possibly be free (the way I like it ;) ). donations, or love gifts could be valuable to such a project but I would guess that no requests would need to be made until long after a working launch of the game if there were a growing player base that used a lot of bandwidth.

How long do you expect it to take you? Is anyone else working with you?
Well I think he started it in early 2002 and it is now at 75% so I'm guessing it may take him some more time.

i've been working on a Christian based RPG for the past 4-5 months. I used a already used engine made for building RPGs so it's nothing that special. It's called, "The Fin Saga". I just want to create it to have the thought that i made a game, lol. It'll be cool to see other games also!
