  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

The other thread here asking everybody who their Patron Saint was made me think that I should probablly choose one, but I really don't know how I would go about doing so. I did a search on saints, and I never realized how many there are: http://www.catholic.org/saints/stindex.php.

So how do I go about narrowing down my search and choosing one? Any suggestions?

the way i chose mine was to think of one of my greatest desires, what was important to me and that is for the conversion of my husbands soul, that he would embrace the Catholic Church. St. Cecilia is known for the conversion of spouses which is why i chose her. now that i'm more familiar with praying to her about my hubby, i also ask other things as well :)

DT, there are tons, and tons of Saints. You will want to narrow the feild a bit before trying to look at a list, or you could be there for years :D
here is the list of patron Saints - http://www.catholic.org/saints/patron.php

Ah, thanks. That helps a lot.

I just saw a list of all the saints and I thought to myself "how on earth am I going to read about all of these to chose the right one?" But this site helps a lot.

DreamTheater, if you have a priest who knows you pretty well, he might be able to guide you in the right direction. Priests are usually well-versed in the lives of the Saints, and if your priest is familiar with your personality and with what your spiritual needs are, he could probably help you to narrow the list down to a more manageable size.
