I am currently in the process of applying and choosing a grad school for Fall 2013. It's quite a bit more overwhelming and confusing than I thought it would be. I really want to get into the mental health field in terms of offering psychotherapy. The issue with this is that there are so many different disciplines in which I can choose to do this. There's Licensed Counseling, Social Work, Psychology, Marriage and Family Therapy, and a few more. Currently, I am leaning toward Marriage and Family Therapy. I am very interested in psychology, however I am having a really hard time finding a program that is not research/thesis based. Also, many of these programs require that you go on for your PhD as part of a commitment to the Masters program. This is not something that I'm interested in. Someone suggested that I look into Clinical Psychology. Does anyone know what the difference is between a Clinical Psychology degree and a Psychology degree? I'm not too far from Chicago so if I were to pursue Psychology, Adler school of Psychology, Chicago school of Professional Psychology, and Agrosy are all downtown as options. Does anyone have advice or experience with these schools?
