Have you had this kind of surgery before? My DIL had it done about 2 years ago...she was in the "hospital"...just a few hours then sent home.

Something odd is happening with Gracie's leg...she moved it while playing last night...just playing on the couch with Larry and it did it's "thing"...she cried and as I was rubbing the leg, I heard or felt a little pop. She sees the vet this morning...and she seems just fine...like herself..."jet propelled". I just want to get some info on her condition if I can.

My right-side popped out between 2-3 years ago....
It was repaired and I was also sent home, after just a few hours

Just-recently, [last Wednesday] my left side popped-out
and left me, walking around, like I had suffered, a 'boot-2-groin' injury
for several hours, during which I searched myself, for bruises
and found a chicken-egg [sized] protrusion, just above my left groin
I was able to pop it back inside, with a sound, like a wet rubber balloon being stroked

It's possible that Gracie has joints that pop-apart [too far] ~dislocations
Not to say 'deformed' but rather, that she maybe has, a genetic predisposition to it
Many pedigree [pure bloodline] animals, have breed-specific 'vulnerabilities'
With German Shepherds, it was cutaneous / sub-cutaneous Cysts and Hip Dysplasia
that could, bring them down [at any age]

for it being, only, immature ligature/muscle control of joints
An X-ray examination will probably be necessary, to aid the vet's diagnosis

I am glad you don't live alone Dave, Mary will help you a lot after surgery.

Gracie has torn a tendon or ligament in her leg...makes it difficult to keep the knee in proper alignment. Surgery is the treatment for bigger dogs...usually not for the little ones...She needs restricted activity for 8 weeks and he is giving her Adequin (?) treatments to prevent joint damage and keep arthritis at bay. She is feeling great today...so one would want to just let her jump and play...but we will not do that per drs orders. I put her toys away, it will help to keep her quiet.

Yeah...that is why I am praying

It was hard enough when Penny was spayed....puppies have great energy
Maybe keeping her quiet with chews (that last) would help

Yes, Normally - an uncomplicated herniorrhaphy is done in an OUTpatient Clinic.

Aware of that as a nurse, I could, feel like a real-BIG baby .
were it not for the fact that my MRI showed I had
so many loops of Small-intestine CAUGHT in a very tiny hole, &
Not even the Surgeon could push it back in; they said:
My god!, this thing's been like that for ages,
Concerned about how much

of my gut might be dead, they asked:
HOW in the world did you live with it this long?!?" - I said
'with GOD, ALL things are possible...'

The surgeon, once he cut me open, saw a LARGE-percentage had died, but
there was enough *vascular Exchange* back & forth, that he thought,
given my over-all Health, I would be able to Replace dead tissues, with new on my own. -
(Also I have 3 months Free$Follow-up visits, I just found out.)
But obviously he discharged me, only 9 days after surgery. -
And after day 3, I stopped the oxycodone cold-turkey, & have had no pain-killers since.

That all to say, considering I had complications for 5-7 yrs. BEFORE,
except for not drinking enuf, I am doing pretty good now. PRAISE God!

the relentless worry of $120,000 hospital bills.
On accasion, I've wondered IF it's *worth* it to keep
going... but
my LOVE of/for LIFE, & the fact GOD wants me to
continue... ENJOYing my family such as it is, keeps me here.

Such surgery doesn't inhibit the patient too-much Angel' Sis'
One does, have-to avoid 'heavy-lifting' for a week or so
and 'dancing the night away' has been noticeably absent in my life for almost two decades
I will be fine for most activities... although constipation, might be extra painful
within a week or so of the repair surgery... I wont be invalided :no:

Re Gracie:
As I was also thinking,
~that stretched tendon/ligament allows excess-movement at the joint ~dislocation
Muscles attempt to keep the joint in-situ, but it quickly becomes painful and inflamed

The meds, will aid joint lubrication and hopefully keep inflammation under-control
I am surprised, to read that Gracie has not had an elastic bandage
wrapped around the joint and a self-adhesive wrap over that
[large sticking plaster ?] to keep the joint oriented [?]
But the doctor had his-eyes and hands-on, upon Gracie, and we must defer to his opinion
A harness and short leash for that 8 weeks, would be advisable
[kept, at-heel] during 'short walks'
until re-examination and a better prognosis is available

Mary is an absolute angel [IHMO] and would for sure
come to my aid, did I need assistance
just as I, most certainly WOULD go to her aid, did she need it
GOES, WITHOUT SAYING!!!!
I carry my cell phone
and can easily call an ambulance /medical care, to MYSELF

We 'complement' each other ..... amazingly-well

FYI:
I am not... 'attended' by a full time nurse
~Mary's diminuitive stature could not manage, my person, as an invalid

The 'small intestine' sits below the stomach
and reaches down to the tri-fold valve of the caecum
whereafter, it becomes the large intestine

The 'small intestine' continues to absorb nutrient following the digestive processes of the stomach

Peristalsis [the autonomous muscular movement of intestines] would cease in any 'dead areas' of small intestine
ie: loops of anything around three and five inches
of intestinal length that suffered such an asphyxiation, would suffer necrosis
and the intestinal tract would then become prone to gangrene

The digestational process adds nutrient absorbed, direct into the blood stream
If processing ceases below the stomach, the stomach swells with content
reflux and excess gas occurs

The kidneys would be water-rationed...
~with a consequence of toxaemia and even failure

The body can manage for around ONLY three weeks, without food
and ONLY a matter of days without water
On the way to, those limits, however...
'marked changes' in the mind and body, will, take-place
including delirium and organ failure

The "herniorrhaphy" you mention
is the repair of Hiatal Hernia
Repairs to Inguineal Hernias, however
are named 'inguineal hernia repairs'
