  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Won't it automatically sticky itself? I worked with a student at our local ecology centre today and got to see lots of birds up close. They were stuffed. It is a bit sad but all were accidental deaths(windows cats etc) It is very interesting to view them this way and see the marvelous detail and beauty in each tiny creature. Jan

Gone to the birds, did you say Jim? Well then, let's have the birds!

We have a lot of these white-winged doves. They're always in my pond:

Also, Inca doves:

You already heard about the Eurasian collared-doves:

And looking at all of them with beady eyes, the Peregrine falcon suddenly swoops and takes:

Yup. Jim, you're right. This neighborhood is going to the birds, all right.

Well yes technically it is a day off. I just got up earlier than I usually do to feed the dogs, let them out into the backyard etc. My husband does it evey week day so on Weekends I get up and do it. The dogs just can't wait past about 7:15 am.
I do plan on going back to bed. My disabled sons friend and her worker are visiting again this weekend and last night I took my son and her to see our school production of Twelfth Night. It was quite a lot of fun although I do have trouble with the dialogue at times. If it is rushed or there is background noise I am lost. Oh well I read the synopsis before hand so got the main gist. No I am not a teacher but trained and worked as a nurse for many years. For the last 14 though I have worked in my local school supporting students with disablilities which is a type of teaching I suppose just not official and I don't make the BIG BUCKS. It promises to be a lovely day but I am going back to bed for another hour or so.Ta! Ta! Jan

No hair cut for Jim, lots of crows for Jan (and, a day off, hopefully). Claire gets to look at her cardinals, and I get to weed.

Oh joy! :(

I do plan on getting that picture of her, the momma cardinal, today. We had to open the window (storm type) then keep it open for the past two days so she wouldn't lose trust in us before we attempted to put the camera up there. We're going at it slow, because one of the eggs is just on the edge of the nest and I don't want to be the reason it falls off.
Happy weeding! Which reminds me...I was weeding yesterday and I accidentally pulled up a small pecan tree (about twelve inches high) and lo and behold! it was coming out of the pecan! I mean the pecan was still attached and the roots were growing up from it. Now I guess, deep down, I always knew that was how pecan tress grew, I have just never seen one and I was running in the house telling the grandbabies to "Check this out!"
I guess I'm still a kid at heart. :)

Jan, I hope you did get to go back to bed. After all, just because the puppy dogs need to be up and out doesn't mean you need to be bright-eyed and chipper at that hour with them!

Wow, Claire, you are right, that mama bird will have to be approached carefully. But how exciting! I really hope you get your picture!

Meanwhile, I am proud to announce that we have babies! Birds, that is. A house sparrow has claimed the only bird house we thought would never be used, and when we approach it now, we hear "cheep, cheep, cheep." Of course, all the more useable houses hung in far more logical places have been ignored....

Well, I got my weeding done. Yes, Claire, you are right, pecan trees do come up from pecans, and you are actually fortunate to have weeded that tree because as those saplings get older, they are much more difficult to weed.

Speaking of trees, we never did get all the acorns out of our front lawn last fall. So guess what I was weeding this morning, complete with acorns? Yes, that's right, oak trees! What fun! (not) What joy! (not) Almost as good as haircuts!

We have an old tree stump in from garden whicj I used "temporarily" to hold the distant end of clothes line. I noticed a small bird flying out from the lilac brush beside it. Then I noticed the woodpecker pecking out a hollow in the tree and inside the hole were young un's. It was amusing to watch the two adults flitting in and out of the hole, carrying feed in.

I guess I better consider putting a proper pole up before we have to pick up laundry from the turf.

Birds ARE fun.

Cheers,

Jim
