We are back, from the hospital
We saw the surgeon,
who explained that Mary has inoperable esophageal cancer
It began at the joint between her esophagus and her stomach
and is inoperable, because
it has already metastasized beyond the lining of her stomach
She will begin chemotherapy after Christmas
He was talking in terms of months, rather than years
but offered
that some active ladies [as Mary is] have been cured [with chemo treatment]
~from this stage.... so, we have 'HOPE'
If you are led to pray for us, please, do so

My post op visit to the surgeon was yesterday, and he was very pleased, considering how sick I was!
I need to rest through the holidays, and then can gradually resume activities as tolerated.
That won't be hard because I tire very easily, but it is very humbling to wait on the Lord in this, depend on others, and not be able to help Jim with snow removal and holiday preps!
Praying you have a safe and enjoyable trip, Shirley
I am so sorry to hear that Dave
My thoughts and prayers are with you and Mary, that the Lord's Presence, strength, hope, healing, and peace, will be on you both moving forward
This is heavy news Dave....I will certainly be praying for both of you.
My friend Phyllis told me yesterday that her surgery is failing....
the condition is returning.
She was told this could happen; the procedure is about 70% effective.
This hit me hard...
but I am going to the Lord and His Word, so is she.
Thank you Shirley Sis'
I read this again today....
Serenity Prayer
God grant me the serenity
to accept the things I cannot change;
courage to change the things I can;
and wisdom to know the difference.
Living one day at a time;
Enjoying one moment at a time;
Accepting hardships as the pathway to peace;
Taking, as He did, this sinful world
as it is, not as I would have it;
Trusting that He will make all things right
if I surrender to His Will;
That I may be reasonably happy in this life
and supremely happy with Him
Forever in the next.
Amen.

He is able to do chores just fine; the snow removal is more of a concern (to meYes, you do need to rest.....I think Jim is well enough to do the routine chores. It is humbling to be laid low...you have always been the one to "serve".....this quiet time might be a great blessing ((((((hugs)))))).
Praying for Phyllis's needs ~ God bless herMy friend Phyllis told me yesterday that her surgery is failing....the condition is returning. She was told this could happen; the procedure is about 70% effective. This hit me hard...but I am going to the Lord and His Word, so is she.
He is able to do chores just fine; the snow removal is more of a concern (to me), but he assures me he is pacing himself and listening to his body.
Thankfully the snow hasn't been heavy/wet so far.
Down times like this are always a blessing; I learned that many years ago with my serious illnesses.
Having had a good spell for some time and this coming out of the blue, I just needed to shift gears, and let go of my normal 'control' re: holiday preps
Praying for Phyllis's needs ~ God bless her
to that....all these things prepare us for the end of our earthly journey
Praying Lori avoids an emergency surgery situation by not waiting too long; it can be life or death
Sometimes it does subside, if the blockage by a stone is opened; praying for the best
This is heavy news Dave....
I will certainly be praying for both of you.
Is Mary in pain with this??????
Yes we were not overjoyed to receive the news last afternoon
It came as a bit of a surprise to 'three of us'
[Her son] David's, wife, attended with-us
Earlier, perhaps two months ago Mary would suffer [be made uncomfortable]
~by what she considered to be 'trapped wind'
_where, a belch, would make her feel more-comfortable, almost immediately
or, as commonly happened, she would have-to regurgitate, the previous mouthfuls
and the feelings would then pass
She is now being prescribed liquid nutrient
[also incl's fats/ vitamins she would normally obtain from food]
and milk-shake (type) dinners and desserts
This, to ensure she doesn't suffer being deprived of 'essentials'
that her inability to swallow [some items] might likely bring about
They will watch her weight and her blood, and may later instal a stent
this, to keep her esophagus 'open'
But first the chemo, will try to slow /contain the tumours [and reduce swellings]
~which might, make swallowing easier and make the stent unnecessary
God bless you and your's Sis' Shirley
