  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Chip and Joanna Gaines conform or be destroyed ( but be not afraid)

I've watched their show and have never heard them discuss religion or their church (I have watched about 4 episodes overall, so maybe I haven't watched enough). HGTV has had gay hosts, too, and that's fine with me.

I'm not watching for spiritual counsel, I'm watching to get decorating and renovation tips.

I was born literary and musical, but my talent in the visual arts is way below average. I can barely draw stick figures. It's amazing to me that I have a job where I was forced to become reasonably proficient in graphic design--at least enough to put together publications, brochures, posters, flyers, and advertisements. God bless my computer--without its help I could never get through a day.

I am astonished at their ability to think visually (and reproduce what they think visually). My creativity does not extend to that area--although I can sometimes conceptualize amazing ideas and not have the foggiest inkling how to accomplish them.
,
So hooray for the Gaines family, and hooray for the gay HGTV hosts, too.

That's the thing Fantine. They have never discussed their beliefs or what their pastor preaches in his sermons. Yet since the writer disagrees with their pastor, either they denounce their pastor and the biblical sermons he chooses to preach or they are looking at the black ball. This is getting ridiculous. All these righteous, tolerant people are looking like big brother. They scour for anything they can to threaten anyone outside their militant ideology. Even homosexual people have spoken publicly about this being an unfair witch hunt.

This isn't a surprise.

Recall the Chick-Fil-A boycott. Recall what that was over: the comment of the CEO in an interview for a Christian magazine, where the interviewer asked him point-blank about his opinions on marriage, and where he responded that he supported "traditional marriage" (and talked at length in that response not about same-sex marriage, but rather about how he could not support people who divorced and got remarried). This was the action that confirmed to his opposition that his business was lecturing its customers on his politics, and that anyone who continued to eat there was agreeing with his unfathomable display of hateful bigotry. But in reality, it was the slightest offense imaginable and made clear that the only way to stay out of controversy was not only to keep your mouth shut, but to enthusiastically gush support for homosexual unions when asked.

That was years ago. Things have only gotten worse since then. It's sad that we are where we are, but it shouldn't be a surprise at this point.

Naturally. Another show I enjoy being targeted by the PC police.

Knowing how this works, I think the Gaines' are pretty untouchable. The backlash against HGTV if they dumped the show would be biblically huge, and they would be picked up by another network or content provider within a week. My mom was telling me about a show that HGTV cancelled a while back about two brothers who renovated homes (not Property Brothers): some stuff came out about their faith-based views against homosexuality and HGTV dropped them like a hot potato. HGTV got away with it because the show was only a couple episodes into it's first season. Fixer Upper is such a mainstay in HGTV's lineup that canceling it would infuriate a lot of people, likely to the point of permanently boycotting the network.

Surprisingly, a lot of stuff I've seen thus far seems to favor the Gaines. I even read an article on the Washington Post, written by a married gay man, that called BuzzFeed's story about the Gaines' both "a hit piece" and "dangerous".

There isn't a Chick-Fil-A anywhere near here, but when I'm traveling I will drop in and have a sandwich just because I still can. These neo-nazi political correctness folks have got to stop it. And I use the Nazi term with deliberation because the tactics are very brownshirt.

When that happened there was a group of college students who stayed outside the Chick-Fil-A here for a couple days. They would talk amongst themselves about how caring and empathic they were, then shout to anyone who entered "hope you enjoy your HATE you BIGOT!" or variations of that, sometimes using language I can't post here.

I had never really went there much before then, but I happened to be passing through and saw that. I immediately went in and got a chicken sandwich, and made a point of eating there for at least once a week over the next six months.

HGTV might have to put the LGBT agenda higher than their ratings. We will know within a week whether they succumbed to the pressure or not. I'm predicting they cancel the show. But not before it makes a whole bunch more unwarranted news.

Well, if they did it'd be their funeral. It'd be like the BBC deciding not to re-up Jeremy Clarkson's contract after the "fracas" back in 2015 with Oisin Tymon. One of the BBC execs said it was a big mistake doing so. Clarkson and his co-presenters went on to sign a huge contract with Amazon for a new show.
