  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Chinese connection with voting machines -- a known problem

Some recent concerns raised --

"Now, an investigation into Securities and Exchange Commission filings has revealed that the firm that owns Dominion Voting Systems received $400 million from a Swiss bank with close links to the Chinese government less than a month before the election, reports the Gateway Pundit."

Reports: Dominion voting-machine company has Chinese links

================================ NBC news - 2019
Back when it was still politically correct/allowed-by-big-tech to look into this issue or have any concern about it at all -- there was this:

Chinese parts, hidden ownership, growing scrutiny: Inside America’s biggest voting machine maker

"NBC News examined publicly available online shipping records for ES&S for the past five years and found that many parts, including electronics and tablets, were made in China and the Philippines, raising concerns about technology theft or sabotage.
...
Chinese manufacturers can be forced to cooperate with requests from Chinese intelligence officials to share any information about the technology and therefore pose a risk for U.S. companies, NBC News analyst Frank Figliuzzi, a former assistant director of the FBI for counterintelligence, said. That could include intellectual property, such as source code, materials or blueprints. There is also the concern of machines shipped with undetected vulnerabilities or backdoors that could allow tampering."

================

Now of course there is a trend for big-tech and media to frown on the public still knowing about 2019 concerns ... in 2020. Which all by itself is a little "odd".

So in 2020 noticing these details would be deemed below level of concern sort of like "looking into lizard people"

Computer parts made in China.....this is a shocker. I can totally see Trump’s shining face when he hears about this.

NBC news thought so... back in 2019... when it came to chinese software and hardware - connected to US elections.

BTW I have a calculator from China that is not connected to US Elections -- is this what you are talking about?? Are you thinking it might be trying to take over American elections?

Would you approve of missile defense hardware and software provided to us by China??

I am pretty sure the US would like to sell China and North Korea some "special" hardware and software for their missile programs.

And you think nobody ever checked the code in your voting machines ? Like you think this is original thought that nobody could have thought up beforehand ?

Revolutionary idea to think that voting machines should have secure software ?

Of course they check that. It is not like the machines are controlling F 35s.

Then you start the usual conspiracy hogwash that they are invisible changes that only communist lizard people can see them in 7D ultraviolet light on a night with full moon.

If you have evidence take it to the courts and information experts.

But of course you have nothing, you can prove nothing, all you guys can do is to try to invent ever increasingly desperate connections from dead dictators to heat death of the universe why your hero lost.

Even democratic politicians worried about the Dominion voting machine problem before 2020 when it was allowed -- of course now in late 2020 it is no longer acceptable to do it.

Sens. Warren, Klobuchar Sent Letter Warning About Dominion, Other Election Tech in 2019

US election integrity depends on security-challenged firms

All of that is called "no evidence of risk" by some in 2020... if only the AP and NBC and those Democratic Sentators could have been informed that it is all "no evidence" last year and the year before when they thought it was PC "to look".
==========================

Of course if you "notice" these facts... then you could get some "less than data-driven" observation like...

Then you start the usual conspiracy hogwash that they are invisible changes that only communist lizard people can see them in 7D

If only NBC news had your insights into "lizard people" -- we would never have gotten this from them in 2019...

Blue voters didn’t want trump because they think he’s an ignorant, incompetent and dangerous for the country. Trump has demonstrated that he’s ignorant incompetent and dangerous simply by the way he’s handling this coronavirus pandemic. And then there are the other toxic things he does

All those concerns. Gee. Where is the evidence ? 40 court cases down the drain. No evidence. Nada.

I agree that there is a way to use "name calling" as the "evidence"... if that is your point.

No matter that Trump was shutting down infection vectors coming in from China when democrats claimed it was "zenophobic" to stop infected planeloads from coming to the US from China.

No matter that Trump shut down the economy to reduce infection rates.

No matter that Trump came up with a vaccine solution much faster than Biden/Obama did for H1N1 Pandemic.

"The 2009 swine flu pandemic was an influenza pandemic that lasted for about 19 months, from January 2009 to August 2010, and was the second of two pandemics involving H1N1 influenza virus (the first being the 1918–1920 Spanish flu pandemic)."

"... during the 2009 swine flu pandemic, the Obama administration suddenly told states to shut down their testing, without providing much in the way of explanation. And, Biden's top advisor at the time has acknowledged that the Obama administration didn't do "anything right" to combat that pandemic, before walking back those comments."

NBC News 2020
Krebs, the director of the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency, or CISA, has been the target of public criticism from Trump since the Nov. 3 election over his agency's Rumor Control blog, which rebuts a list of false claims about election fraud and hacking — many of which Trump or his lawyers have touted as real after he lost the election.

"I'm proud of the work we did at CISA," Krebs told NBC News on Tuesday night after the firing. "I'm proud of the teammates I had at CISA. We did it right."

To say that the concerns of 2019 were not taken seriously or investigated is inaccurate.
Oh, and by the way, Chris Kleb is a dyed in the wool Republican and has always been a Republican.

I did not see anything in your post where they actually look at the issues in the CBS and AP reports and the issues raised by democratic politicians. Just complaints about Donald Trump.

Or are you saying that the democrats were being alarmists along with CBS and the AP???

Are you saying that the demonstration they did of how easy it is to hack into the voting machines should no longer be taken seriously - because of some "fix" for that - that you forgot to list in your post??

“But Obama 2009” never gets old when talking about Trump’s mistakes in 2020.

Way to stay relevant.

I agree that in posts responding to why blue voters use name-calling when it comes to Trump and the pandemic --- those Obama statistics never do get old.

Sorry for the confusion, I should have quoted this portion of the article knowing that most people don't read the full articles that are posted, I don't aways either. Krebs and the team a CISA worked to make this election "the most secure in American history." They also said, "There is no evidence that any voting system deleted or lost votes, changed votes, or was in any way compromised.”

Trump appointed Krebs, a former policy director at Microsoft, director of what is now CISA in 2017, in the wake of Russia's 2016 election interference campaign and the outgoing Obama administration's declaration that elections systems would become critical infrastructure.

While the agency provides security assistance to a number of industries, like manufacturing and the energy grid, Krebs had become the face of the government's election cybersecurity efforts, which included wrangling both the heads of elections from all 50 states and the broader hacker community.

Both groups are historically skeptical of the federal government, but under Krebs' direction, CISA has been able to make inroads with both. He became a fixture at the country's major cybersecurity conferences and persuaded highly regarded hackers to join CISA.

He also won over state election officials from both parties, hosting national joint election security walkthroughs and persuading every state to install cyberthreat information-sharing sensors. Noting that some states were unable to receive intelligence briefings in 2016 because some information about Russia's activities was classified, CISA oversaw an initiative to get at least one person with security clearance in each state.

Ivanka Trump received trademarks for voting machines in China in 2016. Although she shuttered her business in 2018 and never manufactured the voting machines, I find it odd that she even wanted her trademark on them.

Snopes cuts through the lies to get to the truth. They call the voting machine trademark story "mixed," since there were serious ethical questions with Ivanka getting over a dozen trademarks while her father was engaging in tariff wars with China.

Did China Grant a Trademark to Ivanka Trump for Voting Machines?

In terms of Dominion, it is a privately held company. Privately held companies are not required to reveal who their shareholders are. If we are really concerned about fraud, we should either require that voting machine manufacturers should be publicly held companies or require that any privately held voting machine manufacturer needs to reveal every investor in the company and the number of shares they own.

If Ivanka had an interest in getting trademarks for voting machines in 2016, for all we know she could be an investor in Dominion, or some other privately held voting machine company. The same could be true of any other political figures.
